    hmmmmmmmm

Got home from first day bear scouting..Ebony had her leg go out..non weight bearing..no fracture.
Set her up for vet visit Mon.am..expect surgery will probably be needed..she doesn't appear to be in pain or distress.

Best thread title of the year from none other than Srupp!!

Too bad about the dog, especially if its knee related, etc. Never fun

That's bad luck Steven, but with all the good mojo you've thrown my way I know that pooch will be up and chasing bears in no time!

    Re: hmmmmmmmm

That sucks. My yellow lab tore his knee 3 years ago now. We went the non surgical route and it has turned out great so far (knock on wood). Had him on anti inflamatories/ pain Meds for a couple weeks and limited his walks for a few months as leash only, but now he runs free in the bush fetching sticks and playing with his other dog friends on the trails. He is now 4 1/2 and very active and can go all day. Vet said he will likely have arthritis issues later on, but I was told that dogs that have surgery likely will have issues as well. I am currently off work (1 week now) with my second ACL rebuild. This time using one of my quad tendons. Should be back in form by Sept. Hopefully. Best of luck to your pooch and your upcoming knee operation.

So went to vet this AM.it defiantly is the knee, torn unstable,3 options..
1..wait 6 weeks see how it heals..she is in pain but not distress. .
2..local vet does surgery.. $1600..ish...3 week physio..3 month till..as good as it will get .
3 take Ebony to Kamloops where a vet specialist would shave the knee, add strong ligament material and steel plates..the shaving of the leg would optimize the angle of the meeting of the joint.. $4,000 " plus"..

Hmmmmmmm we decided to go with door number 2...local vet will cleanup knee and add 2 strong synthetic tendon like strings anchored to stainless pins outside the knee joint. We had same vet do same procedure 3x on 2 past pets..his work held.
    That's the latest update..
    Cheers

We did Option 3 at Boundary Bay vet with the big kahuna for these surgeries. Titanium knees (two of them). Combined cost was about $11k. We were VERY conservative with the rehab timing - slow, long months.

Dog does very well now. Not perfect because, at the end of the day, he has two titanium knees, but very close to old. Runs, chases the ball, swims, hikes.
