When I was looking at buying glass about 10 years ago, it was suggested to me that certain price brackets really didn't offer any better performance then the next lower price bracket. IE: A set of $350 binoculars worked just as well as an $800 set in the same brand, or $1000 set just as good as a $1500. Basically I was told to buy in the $350-$500 zone, or the $1000 to $1200 zone, or the $2000 plus zone. I ended up buying a set of Leupold green ring 10x42's in the $350-$500 zone and they have been excellent. My only complaint is that when holding them one handed, the side I am not holding will droop down with gravity.

Re: Binoculars in the $500-800 range

based off of the recommendations and several people pm'ing me and pointing out the zeiss conquest I decided to stretch my budget and go with them. I made this decision because the sale at wholesale brought them down to $1015. After seeing the difference between them and the other in the 500-800 range I could not resist spending a bit extra. Guess Ill have to put in an extra day at the office, which will be well worth it now. Thanks for all the help everyone.

Congrats on the new glass. Good score with the $400 off. I'll bet you'll never regret the extra couple bucks over your budget. Here's to many years of crisp, clear glassing!!

Thanks, I figure if im gonna drop a couple grand on fly in trip every few years I could afford to spend a bit more on a piece of equipment that will go on all of those and more casual trips as well.

Thats not excellent, somethings loose. I'd say time to test the Leupold warranty!
