Cool Re: Unique Markings/Features on the Animals you've taken??

My brother shot a good Saskatchewan Whitetail many years ago. Upon butchering it, we discovered an older four blade Wasp Broadhead buried firmly in it's spine, and quite calcified over. Well before the days any of us took pictures although I believe he still has the bone with embedded broadhead on display.

This one I did have a camera for:

    Very cool thread.

I think it is amazing how animals can heal from brutal injuries.

Closest I've come to anything noteworthy was a bullet hole just behind the shoulder of my spike buck this October.

    Keep them coming everybody!!

Here's the feet of an 'elf moose' that my Dad shot back in the early 90's in the North Thompson.
One rotted but he kept the other three with the hopes of making a unique coffee table.

that is cool. It appears the moose has laminitis. I have seen pics if white tails with it on the rich feed of the Midwest. Apparently some of the cadomin rams founder on the high test feed as well. I wonder what the moose got into? Thanks for posting

That's super weird for all 4 hooves to have the same defect. Cool pic.

Not sure if I have a pic anywhere, but I trapped a RiverOtter about 15 years ago that had a white patch on his neck. I also have a bear skull with a semi fused jaw hinge, guessing it was broke as a cub and healed weird, but who knows.

Was at an older gentlemans house a couple months ago and noticed a weird European MD mount on his shop wall. When I asked about it, he said he shot that buck twice, 12 months to the day apart. He took a head shot at a buck and dropped it on the spot. When he hiked up to where it should have been laying, there was a small amount of blood and some hair, but no deer. After extensive searching, he gave up, thinking he had grazed it. Fast forward 1 year, same area and he sees a nice buck so he shoots it. Walks up to it and it has a slightly deformed antler and an eye that is clouded over. Caping the buck out later, he solves his own mystery and finds a healed orbital and deformed antler socket from a bullet wound. Tough critter would be an understatement. Shooting the same buck twice, priceless.

    Thanks for that info Andy.
I had heard that other ungulates can get the same condition and also that it was diet related but never knew what it was called.

I seen a pic years ago of a moose with the same hoofs as that one? I heard that a rancher had found a calf moose whos mother had been killed so he took it home and it lived in his barn over the winter. I guess with the calf walking on straw all winter it's toe nails didn't wear down like with a normal moose, and once they reached a certain point, they just kept growing like in the pic???

shot moose myself with hooves love this, my biggest bull of 52, inches near Pink Mountain. Took and showed a biologist this and he claimed it was from spending most his time in the Muskkeg, and not firm solid ground.

Humph, I just thought he hadn't had a pedicure ...... Good share SSS
