Fixed blade knife in belt sheath, compass, fire making kit, water, extra mag, 3 loose bullets, headlamp, and typically a waterproof map of area currently hunting, clif's bars, black electrical tape, light gloves, and bino's on harness.

These are awesome responses. I'll definitely be modifying things a bit.

Forgot to mention that my bino harness is always on, too (except last year when I forgot it in the truck the one time...idiot...).

The Gerber knife that I carry has a sharpener, a whistle, and a ferro rod, as well a stainless steel pommel that can be used as a hammer (of sorts). Making fun of Bear Grylls is a given, but this knife is pretty slick.

I've never had stuff on my belt interfere with my pack's waist belt. Must just be either a poorly fit pack or my body's an odd shape that allows for both.

I should carry a compass on me, for sure - always one in the pack, but should have one my person. Although, I really should learn some orienteering skills first.

    Great responses - thanks all!

pretty long list for me as I carry a thick belt with 20 feet of strong rope (small carabineer optional ), 2 knives and a mini mag on the belt with two large pouches....
    hunting licences
    spare compass
backtracker GPS (a gift I never use)
spare batteries with tape on the end
2 spare flashlights (one head lamp, one super bright led and my mini mag on the belt)
rubber gloves with spare TP and Paper towel inside
    at least 2 mini lighters
small survival kit inc snare wire, fishing line, lures, water purification tablets, fire starter kit survival blanket 1 1/2 oz size bottle of brandy (one shot worth )
small first aid kit -various things inc first aid tape polysporin
    small sewing kit
    about 10' parachord
2 small pouches of water (from an earthquake kit)
about 2 cups of mixed nuts and a few small chocolate bars
couple of spare bags for liver/heart or even to haul water (liquor store ones are nice and strong)
10 spare bullets (for doing "emergency 3 shot" X3 +one spare for a misfire)
spare pair of magic mini gloves
2 rolls flagging tape and a sharpie marker
    2 way radio
last thing I take off at the end of the day and the first thing I put on is my compass and a call of some sort if needed then my "bat utility belt"...heheh

we always stash the keys near the vehicle but not so near as to be easy to find and I always have a spare inside the truck that can be used by breaking in

That reminds me that my Outback has a feature where you can lock your keys in the car and then use a code on a button on the car to lock/unlock it.

With all of the newfangled keys that are electronic based, I wouldn't feel comfortable "stashing" one...at least not without getting a very small dry bag to keep it in...wouldn't trust that to a ziploc!
