    Prophet River Float Hunt

After doing a fly in hunt this September to the North I have a real itch to get back up there for a longer trip. Although unsuccessful this year we all fell in love with the scenery.

I am debating a horseback trip with one of the three known transporters (steamboat, tetsa, AA) or to do a fly in, float out hunt along the Prophet. The benefit of the latter being cheaper in the long run. In a dream world I would own horses and go where I want, but that isn't happening for now.

I have no river experience and no gear for it, but I am experienced in the mountains and do frequent backpack trips yearly. I'd love info for anything related to floating. Stores, forums, websites etc.

My focus is for meat, elk or moose. That said, I will most certainly chase a good Ram or Billy at any point along the way.

I have read every past thread I can find on the area and float trips in general, but I'd love to get in contact with anyone who has done it, Prophet or any river. Feel free to PM me or get back here. I do already know which landing strip I plan to be dropped at and know of a few others in the area.

    Thanks!

Pg83. Looking at doing a float trip down the Prophet River, hoping to drop in off Highway 97, and float down to Ft. Nelson. Possibly hitch back to the truck and start point. I’m thinking it could be an economical way to do a float trip. Any tips from what you learned would be appreciated. Thanks

My usual partners ended up not being able to commit so I haven't done it yet. What you are suggesting sounds like a good plan though.
