New hunter needing a bit of guidance!

Hey everyone, me and a bud have recently completed the core program and we both have our pal aswell. We are planning a day trip this weekend and would love some help as we really dont know where to start. We are located in langley but willing to travel 3 hours to a site if need be! We will be hunting for deer and some black bear if we get the chance. Any good areas you guys would recommend for some greenhorns? Thanks!

Start by heading towards kamloops. Pick an FSR, drive up a ways till you see a nice area to take a hike.

I find this time of year when it's still pretty hot out and game seems scarce, get up as high as possible, sub alpine or alpine areas are the ticket. For bears, find the berries and/or areas with berry filled scat, don't want any salmon bears. For deer, I like to park at the base of a secluded cut, hike to the top and walk the tree line looking for game trails up into the timber. Find trails with recent sign and hike it as far as you can get. Go really slow, look and listen every couple of steps. You will be surprised how much game you see once off the beaten path. Bring a 22 or small shotgun as well, this is a bumper year for grouse, they're everywhere this year. Good luck.

You could try around Merrit, Roche lake/ Peter Hope lake area.
BUT, Take a GPS, as there are lots of logging roads up in there.

Or, up between Lyton and Lillooet /Cache Creek

If you're heading to Peter Hope, keep going up the hydro right of way another 10 or so of to Plateau Lake. There's a good wide corridor for the power lines with good sight lines to glass, and it's nice high elevation

Use the back roads map book in conjunction with google earth .Earn the knowledge for yourself, its that much sweeter when you succeed.
