    Lewis Winch vs. Portable Winch

I am looking into a puller to help in the lovely process of getting my Game out of the forest. The 2 options i am looking at are the Lewis Winch or the Portable Winch. Both local companies .
Do we have any winching experts out their that could weigh in? I like the price of of the Lewis but the weight of the Portable.

I've used the Portable Winch, very slick. Honda powered, should last forever

Lewis looks pretty fair if you have a decent chainsaw to use it with. It appeals to me because I have spare saws kicking around the shop.

If you don't have a saw to use it with, the cost will pretty much double.

    I've got an old Olini.
Could be the beginning of the Lewis winch.
Bit heavy compared to the Capstan style.
Don't forget, rope is far lighter than cable.
Buddy bought the second listed above and he enjoys the buh-jeezbus out of it.
I've you're young and don't mind the weight of the chainsaw style, I think with a
snatch block doubling your line in capacity, heck you could unstuck your truck.
    Both have their limits.

I wonder if you can use synthetic cable on that Lewis winch.

I have the Simpson capstan winch with a Honda motor. I use 300 feet of non stretch rope and it works awesome. Have it rigged up on a backpack and can pull a moose from anywhere.

Out of curiosity, about how long of a pull can you do with a capstan winch using a rope specific for pulling? Pretty quick to re-spool too I imagine.

We have a Lewis down at the farm. I do believe the cable is 150 feet. It can pull 4000lbs. With a block you can double that. Pulled a black tail buck up the mountain side. It was pulling faster then I could walk.

How ever long your rope is?
