    sheep/goat rifle.

All right everyone, what do you use for a sheep/goat rifle? I want good specs too, make, model, caliber, weight, and scope. That kind of thing. Also remember this is not intended to be a pissing match, just curious what everyone has got going on.

A rifle that weighs around 7.5 lbs ready to go with a scope of 2-7x32 up to about 3.5-10x40 or a fixed 6X is my choice with cartridges like 264 Win Mag, 270 Win, 270 WSM, 270 Wby, 280 Rem or one of the 7mm mags. I have used a bunch of guns in the past but it is hard to beat the 270's listed or any of the 7mm's. Right now I'm using a light Rem 700 35 Whelen with a 6x36 Leupold for mountain hunting and am going to add a 270 Win very soon for both my wife and me to use a Rem 700 or Tikka T 3 most likely.

Mine is a Remington 700 Titanium in 30/06 with Talley mounts and a vx3 2.5-8x36. Comes in around 6.5 lbs Could get it lighter with a different scope and aftermarket stock but honestly I can't be bothered to spend the cash for those minimal weight savings. Shoots awesome with 165 grain accubonds.

Kimber Montanna in 7-08 rem topped with a vx2 3x9

Shes a beaut and a joy to carry. I find it a lot more difficult to shoot such a light rifle though..

    Would reccomned one though

    Re: sheep/goat rifle.

I purchased this bad boy before I had the idea of chasing goats.

This past yearish I've been packing my Parker Hale 1100 chambered in 6.5x55. Naked it's 5.5lbs. I can shave weight on it if I wanted to. I put a 3.5-12x44 scope on it. Weighs a hefty 21.5 ounces. Plus I put tactical rings on it. On the luggage scale it's just under a 9 pound set-up.

Just what I'm using for now.

I use a Winchester model 70 featherweight classic stainless chambered in 270 wsm. Synthetic stock. Scope is Burris full field 3-9x 40. This is my all round rifle but I selected it so I could actually carry it up mountains. I am very happy with this set up.

Im saving for the same thing. Thinking a Sako Finnlight in 7-08 topped with Leupold VX-3 CDS. If money were no option I would look at Ultra Light Arms in the same caliber, comes in at 5lbs so you could put almost any scope on it and have it under 7lbs done.
I use camouflage flagging tape when in the bush, that way no one see's my trails or follows me into my spots.

Savage Lightweight Hunter in 6.5 creedmoor - 5.5lbs
    Leupold VX-3 4.5-14x40 CDS - 13 oz

I decided there was lots of other gear I could spend my money on, so went cheap with the gun, the scope almost cost more! no complaints from me, feels good in my hands, looks sharp, very light, and accurate. If it's lucky it might even kill a goat or sheep this year!

Nothing to get excited over but it does the job reasonably well: Winchester Model 70 Sporter in 270 Win with a Redfield 3-9x40. With 130 grain Hornady handloads it shoots well. Weighs 8.5 lbs and is a pleasure to shoot!
