Ptarmigan hunter? If so, scientists could use your help

If you hunt white-tailed ptarmigan, you could make a valuable contribution to a scientific investigation. Scientists are looking to obtain tissue samples from white-tailed ptarmigan in BC, which will be used for a DNA study aimed at figuring out how distinct different populations are across the species’ range – from Alaska to New Mexico. The project is a collaboration between scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey and the University of British Columbia, and the information generated will help with management of the species. Tissue donations (e.g., wing, head) from BC hunters would be very helpful; even a single sample can yield a substantial amount of information. We have samples from southern BC but none from central and northern regions in the province. We would pay for shipping and would be happy to share our findings with hunters that contribute samples if they are interested.

How long is the study going on for? I usually hunt ptarmigan when I'm up north ( 6-8 ) for Christmas.
