It's not an ideal place to shoot, it's not pack rats ( they don't live around here) and it's not rats, rats leave a different bite mark and other signs.
I often see the offending (saber tooth )rabbit early mornings before first light right around the area they are causing me grief.
My repair specialist also told me that rabbits are causing the same problems at another site similar to mine.

We do have pack rats in the valley, contrary to belief. (closer to forested land) If rabbits are your problem, you can purchase wire cage traps with doors on each end that snap closed once an animal reaches the middle. Then you can shoot them with a pellet gun right in the cage.
If you can pack it in, You can pack it out !!!

live traps. corn or veggies work great. don't have to worry about anything unintentionally getting snared or snapped. the traps are cheap and in a few days you can clean them out pretty quick.
after they're in the trap i used to put them in a gunny sack and whack them on the head. dad used to shoot them (right in the trap).
Get one of these. Then scorch them underground.
