Wife's First Kill, Tag Soup Off the Menu.

The Mrs. had an antlerless mulie draw for the month of November, her first full season after joining the ranks mid way through last fall. After an unsuccessful moose hunt to the north, where we both had a shared bull draw, and a slow season all around, we've been out quite a number of times through November in search of a doe without juvenile company. She passed on 3 does with fawns earlier in the month, for obvious reasons, but for whatever reason, areas that are normally crawling with mulie does were not producing, and spirits were down to say the least. Today being the last day, we were going out for a last kick at the can despite her working a night shift last night - after a short morning sleep, we loaded the crew up and headed out to an area all new to us. It looked promising, and soon the boss spotted a deer bedded down in a cutblock about 150 yards away. A look with the binos confirmed a lone mulie doe - perfect. She watched us from her bed the whole time - but wouldn't willingly stand for a nice broadside shot despite a few whistles. In the end, the wife put the 130gr TTSX from her Ruger M77 compact in .308win cleanly though the neck, and then I got to do the real work.

    Pretend hunter.

Hunt the last day of your hunt like you did the first day, and it works! Congrats on a fine looking Deer!

Congratulations to the huntress! You may now spend lots of money on hunting gear without objections. Everyone wins.
