Connect with an expierenced hunter who you can go along with to get you going. Trying it all on your own can be done of course but will take lots of time in most cases.

I harvest carrots. I kill animals.
Try to hunt where the animals are and the people are not. Drive, hike and hike some more. Use a gps and find promising areas on google earth. Scout in the off season and look for sign. Do lots of reading and lots more. Find someone who has been around the area you're interested in and buy them a beer and hopefully they can share some tips. That's all I got..
Find an area close enough that you can get there regularly that is hunting legal crown land. The first few times don't expect much but getting to know the area. Getting together with someone who has hunted for a while is way simpler though.
