    Teaching tracking skills?

Who has trained their dogs to track?

Any good links to check out? We got a new pup and I would really like to train her for tracking.

Where do I start? She is 8 weeks old now.

There is a trainer in New Westminster who teaches, amongst other things, tracking, can't remember her Company name.
She is involved in S&R, avalanche tracking and such.
Maybe a Google search could find her name and maybe she could offer some tips and advice.
We took one session ( I think it was for 8 weeks ?? ) with our Toller and our Daughter with their Lab. Lots of fun.
Both dogs did very, very well in it, the Lab continued for a bit longer and enjoyed it and was pretty good at it.
Would have loved to continue further with it but it conflicted with so many of our other activities.

What do you like to track with your dog? What kind of breed is it?

Start with 1 meter square on grass.scatter some small pieces of food in the square.let them search for them. When they find one piece praise them with the word your going to use.eg.Good seach.and let them continue. You can help by pointing but they will get it.

Lay short tracks with a piece of food in each foot print.Dirt is best to start. let it age for 15 min then bring then to the track to search slowly.

    Make sure they are hungry

Too much to write down. 8 weeks is too young let them be a pup for a while

PM if you want more info .

Thanks RDM, I will message you one day. I am enjoying her right now and working on basic obedience!

She is a Doberman, her dad did LOTS of tracking S&R. I know it is in her breeding. She is smart as a whip and learns everything so quick!

    1. Human over population
    2. Government burden and overreach
