As there is not longer a registry and the records were destroyed there's no way to trace back the owner of any long rifle in the country. Once it leaves your hands, your no longer respocible for anything the new owner does with said item.

Just list on here or CGN would be your best bet if you care about how many dollars you get. if getting a certain price is of no value to you, then put them consignment at siwash or somewhere and you get what you get. Realistically thousands of guns are sold every month online, and very small percentage are bad deals, and even less are bad deals if you are selling. you get the cash, you send the gun - call in the PAL to verify and boom you are good to go

Maynards auctions has a firearms and sporting goods auction twice a year. There is one coming up this month. They take a consignment fee, but they also deal with all the hassle of verifying the buyers. Just another option.

The reason why some people are afraid to ship firearms is because there are some crooks out there who were using it to their advantage. For instance there was one individual in Manitoba who was posting firearms that he was trying to sell. He would take the money never ship the firearm but also he would get the PAL information from the buyer. This information now allows him to go around using the net to masquerade as those individuals. A variation of identity theft. Those that have reported this incident to the RCMP have been warned that if you want to protect yourself in this regard to never give out your PAL information via email or over the phone to another individual. And to complete all firearms transactions face to face. Also the people that did give out PAL information to the crook have had to report the incident and then reapply for a new PAL. All it takes is some bad apples out their to screw it up for everyone else.

None of this applies to the seller. The seller doesn't need to provide anything to the buyer, other than maybe a tracking number.

To be honest, I've never seen a good reason for someone not wanting to ship a firearm.

I've probably received/sent 20 rifles by mail through deals here and at CGN. The only problem I've ever had is damage by Canada Post once and that potential problem is negated for an extra 5 or 10 bucks to fully insure the package. If you're not at ease with the internet end of it get a phone number and talk to the other party as well you can search their activity on the forum, check their licence etc. Its very safe IMO.
its gonna take a life time to hunt and fish all this
