Some truth there for sure as even manny years ago when I was a sprout climbing all over the backbones I had planes come chase sheep over and beyond. But that said- I know there are a whole lot of wealthy hunters too whom own their own planes too so might not always be the outfitter doing the driving there. And too -as I hate to paint all with one brush, and to be fair-I too know some VERY respectable outfitters and guides that are of the highest moral fiber and ethics and am proud to know them,to call them my friends.Still, its heartbreaking to have that done to you after endless dreamings and finally to the ballbreaking climbs into the alpines and then the pristiness is shattered by such deeds.Had the "hairs" on engines a couple times in anger-but thank heavens cooler heads prevailed-still remember those huge rams we were stocking going over those far off tops......never to be seen again but in my dreams forever. His cute hair? Dude, have you ever seen him? That guy is no Sheep hunter. A Sheep like that, to most of us "hunters" on the forum, is the ram of a lifetime. You'd work hard to get it, enjoy every bit of the hunt, and enjoy the meat the animal provided. You'd have that mount on your wall and remember it always. To a guy like that, its just another show. He probably rode the horse right up to it, he doesn't look very sweaty at all.
Guys like that give "real" hunters a bad name. Hunting porn. Give me the real mackoy anytime.

oh my - you really do envy the guy!

He has an amazing show, a huge fan base, and from what I know and have personally witnessed (not hearsay BS) he gives a lot back to less fortunate people he hunts with!

    never-mind, maybe one day eh?

Enjoy his show as well! For sure a lot of non resident sheep hunters work for their rams as hard as residents do
Have no issues with non res sheep hunters; sometimes just the company they keep..

sheephunterab - I now remember your Stone's sheep article. It was a long time ago but stories like yours are among many I have read that kindled the fire for sheep hunting. I recall your ram was a 11th hr in a snow storm. Tough hunt indeed in a low density sheep area and I can see the effort required of such a hunt! That was awsome.

Sorry to burst your bubble but is is absolutaly standard practice and of course you will be the last too know. Twenty years ago before everyone stopped talking on HF radios you could even hear the pilots talking to the guide. Just cause theirs less radio noise now doesn't change anything. Chances are if your on day 18 the outfitter is putting in double time to make it happen. Why do outfitters always have expensive cubs, even though many seem to kill themselves with it.

I've only ever hunted with one outfitter that had a cub. On my 18-day hunt we had zero contact with the outfitter. I suspect we covered over 100 miles. In fact on all the sheep hunts I've been on we had a sat phone on one and it came out to inform the pilot where to pick us up. Words like "always" typically show a lack of knowledge about the subject. I've guided several sheep hunts and never got any more information than we are headed to a particular range. Not all outfitter have cubs nor planes of any kind. Many do....many don't. There are very few absolutes in life. I do my homework carefully and pick my outfitters accordingly......always! No question pre scouted hunts are out there but sorry to burst your bubble but so are old fashioned work for a ram hunts.

Thanks. No doubt they happen. No plane on that Dall hunt other than the Beaver from town to main camp. No fresh lettuce in spike camp either...just Mountain House....lol
