Unfortunately he peeled a lot of line and thinking it was a spring we jumped in the boat to land it . We were a few hundred yards downstream before we landed it .Not really much of a fight compared to a spring of similar size. My son wanted a picture but his phone was back at the beach and since we were not going to keep it, we released it. He tried keeping it in the net beside the boat but it wasn't working. It was already showing some purple stripes. It was definitely larger than the 15 lb spring we weighed later. I have only seen one other chum landed during the sockeye fishery and that was in the early years of the fishery. I recall that it just sulked out in the river like a log. No runs or jumps. This one just peeled out a bunch of line when hooked and then was able to be reeled in once we were out in the boat. The 15 lb spring was landed on the beach but it jumped and made several large runs . Way more fun to fight and watch.
