while I can not fit my sidekick in an airplane I can't count the number of times I have left camp and the quad guys are driving their diesel trucks instead of riding! I do own and have owned a lot of quads and they are fun etc but NO fun when weather is cold and wet!
As has already been said, EVERYTHING has it's pros and cons! personally I use my sidekick to get me to an area and then I am walking anyways.

I've got a Suzuki King Quad but thinking about a RZR...more room, seat for hunting buddy, and box in back...
The standard RZR and the new Trail Prowler by Arctic Cat are narrow enough for the trails as well...

I personally use an ATV. On my last hunt I got to a point where we had to park them and go on foot though, and maybe half a kilometer in we got our buck. We had no idea how to get it back to out ATV 'cause there wasn't room enough between the trees to bring the ATV through to load the buck. Does anyone know of something that could do this?

...or any small/medium trail bike with a game cart or travois attached.

If the deer is on the small side, you could also do this... (skip to 6:40)

Not to be rude but if it was only 1/2 k (800 yds) drag the deer by hand .... If one or both of you are disabled or are unable to do this I apologise .
Another way to go would be a chain saw .... thin out some of the scrub tree's and drive right in .

I often go with my wife who (no offense darling) isn't strong enough to help me out and my back has been having some problems. My friend recommended a Winch, and he uses the portable winch ( here ), but he is better off than me and likes to have the latest greatest stuff. He uses it to pull game from the bush and even move firewood. Apparently it works well, I'll have to give it a try one day.

Some good opinions on here on all machines, like the samurai but not for me and SXS would be cool in those nasty days. Am stuck with my Honda rubicon that works well in most situations and can afford to cover lots of ground. May upgrade to a heated seat and rain gear this year just to lessen the envy of those guys in their SXS.

That depends on who's driving. I have a friend with a built (actually built-toyota axles, 1.6l, 4:1 tcase gears, the works), and he won't take it a lot of places I go in a stock 89 toyota.
Those who complain about the ride in a Sami don't have a properly built suspension.
And yes, you can have a built to the tits Sami for $5000 if you don't suck. They sell for $1000 all the time, they're just not listed on craigslist.
also, the previously mentioned zuk (which is also a dd), could walk all those trails kudu posted. It all depends on who's driving. An inexperienced driver can make even the easiest trail dangerous.

The only thing I like as much as trucks, is guns.
