I love that idea....I wouldn't probably light it in a stump that close to another tree personally, but when camping in the winter, I've always had issues with the fire burning down through the snow, and eventually putting itself out..simple yet effective..Originally Posted by northernbc

And I've always wanted to do a snow cave, but was always too afraid for fear of it collapsing...did you bring a stick in with ya to poke through in case? Air hole? 3 levels with a fire at the 2nd level inside with the bottom level for the cold air to go?

Thanks harry for the kind words. The fire is a good way to go I use it a lot. As for the shelter it has a vent hole but is not split level lol. That is the correct way but I never find it cold enough to worry. I have good sleeping gear. These are not practical to make by yourself
