I've a few books on mycology (study of fungi) but this one is by far the most descriptive and applicable to our area and climate.

Take a kid hunting its more rewarding than shooting an animal yourself!!
The whole amanita family are dangerous. I saw some mushrooms in my front yard that looked from a distance like field mushrooms. I picked on and checked the gills and found they were snow white so I checked my mushroom book. It just happened that the first one listed was the one from my lawn. It was also an amanita and its common name was DESTROYING ANGEL. Deadly poisnonous.
Live to hunt, hunt to live!!!!!
A fatal dose has been calculated as 15 caps.[55] Deaths from this fungus A. muscaria have been reported in historical journal articles and newspaper reports,[56][57][58][59] but with modern medical treatment, fatal poisoning from ingesting this mushroom is extremely rare.[60] Many older books list Amanita muscaria as "deadly", but this is an error that implies the mushroom is more toxic than it is.[61] The North American Mycological Association has stated there were no reliably documented fatalities from eating this mushroom during the 20th century.[62] The vast majority (90% or more) of mushroom poisoning deaths are from eating the greenish to yellowish "death cap", (A. phalloides) or perhaps even one of the several white Amanita species which are known as destroying angels.[63]
This has been used for centuries by various cultures.
Why do you think it ended up in all the storybooks? Anyone here know what Alice in Wonderland is really about?

Amanita Muscaria (Fly Agaric) are not deadly poisonous, that myth has been spread by people that despised Pagan rituals in an attempt to convert the unholy. However this mushroom must be treated with knowledge and respect.
I wonder why Santa Clause wears red and white?
I wonder why Santa's reindeer are able to fly?

1. Human over population
2. Government burden and overreach
Then water is poisonous, too. Drink too much water and you may die.
