Re: Some Big Whities For Ya...
I did a post about this guy last year, but I will repost the trail cam vids, cause he's the only buck I've ever completely focused on for multiple years. I knew I was on the trail of something big, just from judging all the giant sign I came across in this one area of Region 3. So I setup a blind and camera. Saw his tracks in fresh snow right outside my blind, but never did see him in daylight. When I pulled the card from the camera at the end of 2017 I finally got to see what he looked like:

Hunted that same spot for most of 2018 and never saw him in daylight. But he showed up again at the exact same time of year. His rack wasn't quite as big as previous year, but he still had that same F U attitude:

Re: Some Big Whities For Ya...
I swore that 2019 was the year I was going to make it happen, assuming he made through another hunting season. Moved the blind a bit, cleared different shooting lanes etc. - I was pretty determined. But these guys don't get this big and old by being idiots. And you guessed it, he only showed up at night again. Never saw him in daylight - just his giant tracks and scat and the odd rub. But he really blew up in 2019:

He's no longer kicking, as a big cat got him about 20 yards from where my blind was setup in December 2019. I found him in the spring of 2020 and all that was left was his pelvis and all of his hairs had been plucked out one by one. Couldn't believe it. What a beautiful specimen he was - he was king in this area. I scored him at 186 and change

HTL. Love the junk he's sporting.
Re: Some Big Whities For Ya...
SSS & Norwester - absolutely! Love the fact that he came back to the same area at the same time every year. Good genes in this area. Not a ton of whities (but their numbers are increasing), but the whitetails that are in this area can get really big. More mulies for sure. Once the mulies move out in mid October, the whitetails always move in and stay till the snow pushes them lower

You couldn't take some vacation days and string together a longer hunt to increase your chances?
Too bad about his demise. I remember the pics you shared last year. Would have been a heck of a wall hanger
Re: Some Big Whities For Ya...
HTL, that is a true pisscutter. R3 has quietly been producing some phenomenal whitetails over the last few years. There are opportunities there for guys with a little snooping on the ground. Hopefully you can find another to hang your hat on. Lovely buck.
