Well, this was one of the slowest 7 days hunts I had ever been on, with the hot weather we could not find much for bears. Started out hoping to go backpacking, snow levels had stopped us. From covering lots of new country. This was the last night of the hunt, Had only seen 4 bears, including a sow and cub. The other two were small bears. We had a good lookout over cuts and a valley bottom and we had a last little walk we wanted to do to get some exercise and maybe find some sheds if we were lucky. At the point I hadn’t really cared if I shot a bear or not. 6:15 park the quads and start hiking through a spot we called the “green belt” 6:30 and half a km later we stumble upon this guy,40 yards, behind some thick pines, walks out on a trail it was following. Coming in a 45 degree direction towards us I take a couple steps closer to a tree, bear stops and bang! 15 yards through the lungs, spins, bear notices us and charges us. Put one right behind his head and drops at 5 yards.
