Best thread title of the year from none other than Srupp!!
Too bad about the dog, especially if its knee related, etc. Never fun
Sorry to hear that Steven ! Bet she don'd WHINE as bad as you did ! lol RJ
Sorry to hear that, at least like you said she doesn't appear to be in pain or distress...definitely funny thread title..
That's bad luck Steven, but with all the good mojo you've thrown my way I know that pooch will be up and chasing bears in no time!
All the best

That sucks. My yellow lab tore his knee 3 years ago now. We went the non surgical route and it has turned out great so far (knock on wood). Had him on anti inflamatories/ pain Meds for a couple weeks and limited his walks for a few months as leash only, but now he runs free in the bush fetching sticks and playing with his other dog friends on the trails. He is now 4 1/2 and very active and can go all day. Vet said he will likely have arthritis issues later on, but I was told that dogs that have surgery likely will have issues as well. I am currently off work (1 week now) with my second ACL rebuild. This time using one of my quad tendons. Should be back in form by Sept. Hopefully. Best of luck to your pooch and your upcoming knee operation.
So went to vet this AM.it defiantly is the knee, torn unstable,3 options..
1..wait 6 weeks see how it heals..she is in pain but not distress. .
2..local vet does surgery.. $1600..ish...3 week physio..3 month till..as good as it will get .
3 take Ebony to Kamloops where a vet specialist would shave the knee, add strong ligament material and steel plates..the shaving of the leg would optimize the angle of the meeting of the joint.. $4,000 " plus"..
Hmmmmmmm we decided to go with door number 2...local vet will cleanup knee and add 2 strong synthetic tendon like strings anchored to stainless pins outside the knee joint. We had same vet do same procedure 3x on 2 past pets..his work held.
That's the latest update..
Cheers

We did Option 3 at Boundary Bay vet with the big kahuna for these surgeries. Titanium knees (two of them). Combined cost was about $11k. We were VERY conservative with the rehab timing - slow, long months.
Dog does very well now. Not perfect because, at the end of the day, he has two titanium knees, but very close to old. Runs, chases the ball, swims, hikes.
The $1600 is a quarter of the price I was quoted for the specialist in Victoria. It was going to be $6400 plus Meds additional check ups etc... I really hope it works for your pup. Good luck
My old guy aka "Dutch" blew out his right when he was seven opted for door #3 as my daughter was in university at Washington state vet school.Cost with discount was $2500.00 US in 2011 .Titanium plate etc. was great for 5 years then blew out the left so at 13 he was retired and still gets around ok today. Killer was the vet at WSU told me he would probably blow out his other leg eventually. Looking back probably would have done door #2 as well and watched him a bit better as he grew older the operation was quoted to me as $3500 Canadian at the time so was worth going to US IMHO.

Funny thing I was having right knee problems and Karen just wanted to put me down  said she couldn't stand all the whining !
Lol..ask RJ you ccouldn't possibly whine near as much as I have with my failed knee surgery..off to PG".where once asleep they will manipulate= mangle the knee joint to read up excessive scar tissue...once awake the real whining starts...
This time the cryotherapy..and CPM units have been rented by Susan and I..hopefully good results for both Ebony and I.
Cheers

Steve, good luck to you and ebony! Hope they both turn out well.
Best of luck and speedy recovery for you and the pooch Steve.
For those who want to read up on cruciate disease in dogs; Veterinary Partner has a couple of good articles on the disease and the various options:
https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Co...S=0&C=0&A=1975
https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Co...S=0&C=0&A=3547
In my clinic I offer a number of different procedures; generally the TTA and TPLO is better suited for large dogs (>45 lbs) than the extra capsular repairs. Faster return to function and, at least in my experience, better and more consistent outcomes.
Thank you for the exceptional articles.unfortinatley all my labs, even coming from different kennels have had this issue.
If I go the $$$ route there is nothing left if her other leg goes out.my last lab Morgan had left one go..fixed..6 months later her right one went.. $4,000 total...6 months later she had to be put down because of face cancer..
Unfortunately finances do play a part in these decisions..and we are keeping the option open if her other knee fails.
Thank you again.
Steven
Ugh!
Sounds like you don't have pet insurance?
Would this not of helped financially?
On a personal note, YOU know full well, that a person in REAL pain, will not become dependent on a morphine drip...;)
Hope your BF recovers well, along with yourself! #oldkneessuck
Hey Srupp one of my dogs had a similar injury at about 6months of age and it healed just fine on its own took about 2 months.

Mighty Cisco, PB Rottgod, very good watchdog and cuddlepuppy at 120 lbs, sends his love and hopes to Ebony for the best possible results this afternoon.
I love dogs, all dogs and wish I had a huge acreage on the SW shore of Kootenay Lake where the Cherub and I would operate a home for stray doggies and purrboxes.
So, best to you, bud and your lady, hoping for the best! :) :) :)
Thank you D.
Steven

Good luck with recovery!
Trig had a TTA done on his left leg, and a year later went lame on the right. I had a brace built for him by a great guy in Victoria, and he ended up recovering just fine!
He didn't love the brace though...
