The most important piece of backpacking equipment...
Coffee! Every 4 years or so I revisit the way I deal with satisfying my coffee addiction while backpack hunting. I always hope to find “something better”. When in the truck, I use a percolator. When backpacking, I tried a variety of solutions and found most to be dissatisfactory... I can’t do instant, sorry if that sounds snobby, and - out of principle - I won’t go out with them buji stovetop espresso makers. But I need two cups in the morning and one around lunch. That’s a must!
Love the aero press coffee but it’s way too bulky!
what do you use?

I have a silicone pour over. I think it's made made by gsi and sold at atmosphere. A couple of #2 filters, some grounds, a jetboil and you're set.
I actually quit drinking coffee a couple of years ago just so I wouldn't have to make it in the morning. Most mornings I want to get up and go, but needing a coffee before I can do that was hindering my hunting. As a bonus I get less heartburn and I'm sleeping way better.

This one. I bought it without the grinder kit for about $20
Re: The most important piece of backpacking equipment...
Backpacking, you owe it to yourself to at least try a Starbucks Via. Try one at home.
Re: The most important piece of backpacking equipment...
the starbucks via is quite tolerable for "instant". i like the french roast, pretty dark. especially when space and weight are an issue. i do understand making space for good coffee though! priorities
could just go with cowboy coffee? then you don't need equipment haha
another similar option is turkish style coffee. very fine ground, mix with a bit of sugar. you just pour in the water to your mug with the grounds and let the mud settle for a couple minutes before drinking.

MSR coffee filter. Single mug. Had one 16 years still good to go.

This is what you want. My wife and I use this all the time. We have 2.
