agreed even when you think its gone for two weeks it does a circuit and comes and visits you...
i tried hazzing cougars numerous times including throwing large rocks at them and hitting them..
unfortunatley the best answer is hot lead...
i have a couple breeding lammas he could by they are very protective of lambs.
Thanks all, I will pass on the advice!
The CO's had to put the cougar down, they caught it in a leg trap and it was extremely old with missing claws and teeth, etc. So it definitely would have been a frequent flier at their farm if they kept it alive.
Sounds like they are now considering getting a few Great Pyrenees for future security.
thanks for the feedback Darek. Glad it was resolved as quick as it was.
I think dogs do a great job deterring predators from messing with livestock. But once those predators get ballsy or desperate enough and attack livestock there is only one way to deal with them.
Donkeys life span is about 80 years. Commitment for a life.
Llamas are also great protection animals, altho I'm not sure how they'd react with cougars. The only fearless dog breed I know of for cougars/lions would be a Rhodesian Ridgeback, originally bred for hunting lions in Africa. Amazing guard and family dogs!
if OP freind owns a farm...he\she should own a firearm.......and be comfortable with it..
sheep have a lot of problems sometimes birthing..horses and cattle break legs and then theres the predators...
call out vets are very exspensive to tell you to put it down...
Bang.. fire up excavator or tractor.
