Bear down!
Finally, after hitting my usual areas many times, glassing and pounding the ground, I connected with this fella.
I've seen his big scat piles in this one area for the last two years but never laid eyes on him.
Until 2 nights ago, to change things up, I decided to mountain bike in to get some exercise and keep the noise down.
Then still hunted up along the forest edge deep into the back of a clear cut where you can't see because of terrain depressions.
And there he was, 100 yards away. Had time to setup, look at him through the binos to be sure.
I saw right away his stiff back legged swagger which was a good indicator.
Then got a look at the head, woah looks big. Everything felt good.
Got setup on a stump, now I'm looking through the scope.
He walked towards the bush and my many broadside chances disappeared.
I'm waiting, he doesn't know I'm there so I figure he'll eventually feed along and give me an opportunity.
Waiting is the worst as adrenaline can start to creep in.
He eventually gives me a window through the trees.
The silence leading up to that loud bang is always exciting. BOOM!
He's down, flailing about, eventually props himself on his front two legs where a follow up frontal shot ends it all.
I call my buddy who's taking his CORE and offer him to come help pack him out. Great experience for him.
Definitely bigger than last year's bears.

I got him in the same spot as I saw this last year.

So hopefully this gives the deer pop a better chance.
Got all the meat processed with the wife last night and finished with a good bear burger to top it all off.
Thanks for the many other success stories and here's to all of you getting after spring bears! :D

Re: Bear down!
What a great looking bear! Great lesson too. I’m still trying to connect this season and I think persistence and patience are the missing pieces.
