Leica rifle scopes - new line
Who owns a Leica scope?
I have always drooled over the "fancy" stuff, but never could convince myself to spend the money! Waiting for my VX-3i to sh** the bed so i can upgrade
Looks like Leica has come out with a new line - Amplus 6 (Looks like it's meant to compete with Zeiss V4/V6).
1-6 x 24
2.5-15 x 50
2.5-15 x 56
3-18 x 44
https://us.leica-camera.com/Sport-Op...mplus-6/Models
Leica website does not mention the 3-18x44, but eurooptic (usa site) shows it available for pre-order? https://www.eurooptic.com/Leica-Ampl...ope-50211.aspx
Anyone have any info for the Canadian Market or even heard of the new line up?
This one has capped turrets - but other pics show open turrets like Zeiss V4

Re: Leica rifle scopes - new line
I would be all over that 3-18x44, like you said very much like the Zeiss V4 4-16x44,
I’ve used Leica binos/spotters for a long time and always very happy with them, They also have a 5-30x56 I would like to try on my Carl Gustaf 6CM target rifle.
Re: Leica rifle scopes - new line
As you know i use the ER 2.5-10x42 with the ballistic reticle. I dug up the old receipt and paid $1427.00 taxes in in 2012. If I remember correctly Leica got out of scopes for awhile and got back in with these. I have 2 go to rifles and I am trying to find one used for my other gun. Have missed a couple but I'll keep looking. The glass is great and treated so that water beads off real nice but it is the adjustments that I like and have me looking for another one. I wanted the ballistic reticle for simplicity and am very happy with it. Precision Optics carries them and I got mine from Italian Sporting Goods on sale. Those new ones look nice and not liking a big bell I'd be looking at the 3-18 x44 also. Damn now you got me thinking. Mine has not been babied at all and have had no issues even with some falls.
Re: Leica rifle scopes - new line
Hmmm, that 3-18x44 would look nice on my 300 win mag that's soon to be coming home from it's semi custom face lift/re-barrel!! moosin

Take a peek through a Leupold HD5,,,I just picked up my first one,,way nicer than my VX3i scopes
Re: Leica rifle scopes - new line
Yes, Leupold VX5HD is a great line. Leica is just something .... different.
I don't know the prices for canadian market, but i'm guessing it will be more expensive than the Zeiss V4 or Leupold VX5 HD.
Re: Leica rifle scopes - new line
Another vote for the 3-18, I like 42 or 44. I am not really into the 50 or 56mm for hunting. Wonder how it stacks up to the 3.5-18 Z5?

does anyone actually own a 56mm for hunting??
They are popular in Europe, but people in Europe hunt out of tree stands and don't really go bush wacking or backpacking so the extra size isn't a drawback for them. If anything, it's a plus to impress the boys at the club house with.
i don't know anyone here that hunts with an objective bigger than 50mm.

Apparently made in Germany, so likely at least as much as the V6 in price, rather than the V4.
Bit misleading with the USA site and price I posted above ... guess we Will see.
Re: Leica rifle scopes - new line
I own an Leica ER 2.5-10x42 30mm. Glass is amazing and it is extremely durable. I am hard on my gear and only started using any sort of scope cover this year. The objective has been covered in water, snow, leaves, dust, wacked by sticks etc and doesn't have a mark on it. I have had the scope for 8 or so years now. Great eye relief, crystal clear glass and excellent ergonomics. I can't speak to the quality of their turret system as mine is capped but I am sure they are great.

Curious, what made you choose a leica scope 8 years ago? It seems the BC hunters are much more partial to Swarovski and Zeiss, so curious why you went with Leica.

My uncle is a bit of a Euro snob when it comes to optics. I didn't know much about Leica then besides their range finders. He urged me to look into their scope line. After some research and talking to a photographer friend I undetstood just how excellent Leica glass was. I contacted Omer and he happened to have a special on the previous years model. I couldn't pass it up.
I agree though. You see alot more Zeiss and Swaro in the BC hunting community.
Re: Leica rifle scopes - new line
That’s because until now Zeiss and Swaro had better options for the North American hunter. Leica has always forced European ideology in what they think we should be using, until now. This line, especially the 3-18 was designed specifically for the North American market. Leica has always made a high quality scope but these have the features that we look for in a hunting scope.

This is it exactly, its like they weren't interested in what we use or need as far as scopes go in North America, they half heartedly attempted to make some scopes to dabble in the NA market at best, and expensive is the other setback for Leica, they have great products but are overpriced imho, they need to compete here with price point as well as desirable hunting/long range shooting scopes, hopefully this time around they take a better run at the NA markets.
Re: Leica rifle scopes - new line
^^ well said, both of you.
While I think the previous 2.5-10x42 is a great north America-style scope, they definitely had way too many European offerings and I doubt their sales did that well.
Do you know if their scopes were always German made? Or if they ever took advantage of their plant in Portugal to make some models at a lower price?
Re: Leica rifle scopes - new line
I could care less where it’s made but it your question no I don’t know where they’re made. Leica has the best glass in the business and I’m pretty stoked to lay my hands on these scopes. If the mechanics are good itlll be the one to beat.

I think that's part of the reason why costs of their units remains high. Zeiss has been more competitive in price by offering "assembled in the usa" on the old conquest, and "made in japan" on the new V4.
If the new Leica is still made in germany, it's going to demand a premium price tag still as Weatherby Fan already mentioned.

Leica, Swaro, and high end Zeiss products all use the Schott Glass Company in Germany,,which would validate your statement
