Recreational chinook openings leave First Nations frustrated
Limited recreational openings for chinook on the Chehalis and Chilliwack rivers being questioned
Lack of respect for First Nations fisheries priorities by federal authorities has left members of the Lower Fraser Fisheries Alliance frustrated.
That’s how recreational openings for chinook salmon on the Chehalis and Chilliwack rivers are being characterized by the LFFA, which serves 23 First Nations on the lower Fraser River.

Re: Recreational chinook openings leave First Nations frustrated
There is Chinook Fishing on the measly Chehalis? Where???
Re: Recreational chinook openings leave First Nations frustrated
Stewards of the land should quit netting them, which would equate to less frustration amongst all parties involved because the salmon would have a better chance of rebounding...am I wrong??
Re: Recreational chinook openings leave First Nations frustrated
The issue is a right fing gong dhow though. The Bands that make up the LFFA have no legal rights to the Chehalis or the Chilliwack/Veder. Those rivers already have there own bands that take from them. There is no recreational fishing allowed on the Fraser right now, the only ones fishing are them. Even all the excess hatchery fish are already claimed. Except they get sold to a processor. So the LFFA is trying to go after other bands already claimed fish.
Then you have the early Chinook that are the ones destined for the northern tributaries. That means the ones being caught right now in the lower fraser are the same FSC fish that should go the bands around Quesnel, PG, Etc. They will cause an uproar between those bands to. It is a mess only Canada could create.

This may be a good thing, and a lever.....

It will end up all the governments fault and cost the BC taxpayers millions. I haven't had salmon since 1997.
Re: Recreational chinook openings leave First Nations frustrated

Re: Recreational chinook openings leave First Nations frustrated
Had no clue there were Springs on the Chehalis. Have any of you guys been to that river lately? The entire Fraser salmon fishery needs to be shut down for at least a full cycle (6 years) at the very least - to everyone. And get those friggin gill nets out of the lower river. If FN really gave a crap about salmon they would get their nets out of the river. And if they won't, then DFO needs to grow a pair and mandate it. Take us to court - bring it! There's basically no fish in the river already - good stewards of the land would realize that

Let them net it until it’s dry.

Agree 100%
To boot, the Indians are catching all the fish that the hatcheries made, if the Indians want more fish then help out! Otherwise fack off!
