Big Lake Trout in Horse Lake and Learning how to Jig for Them
We caught some big lake trout in Horse Lake while learning how to jig for them. Time for a bigger net. Here's our video:

Nice to see the boys get so much excitement and enjoyment from hooking up with those lakers.
How did you find the condition of them in Horse Lake? To me it seems lakers have a tendency to be soft fleshed and don't eat well fresh. That may be because of location though?
Did you keep any for smoking?

The tags are part of a scientific study and an angler incentive to make some money while fishing. You can cut the tags from the lake trout if releasing as well. We ended up getting a $110 check in the mail from one of our lake trout.

We did not keep any this trip. I'm planning on keeping some smaller ones next year to try a fish fry and smoking.

Thanks for sharing. Nothing better then seeing and hearing kids get so excited. I’m going to try jigging more next time I’m up that way.

I'm glad you liked it. I really enjoyed jigging for them. I do enough trolling when fishing for kokanee. It was a great change of pace. Good luck jigging!

I haven't heard or seen of any 15lb rainbows coming out of Dragon. I have heard of the occassional 10lb fish, but I'd say a 5-8lb rainbow is a conservative "big fish" out of Dragon, which is still a prize to be had on light tackle.
