have you harvested anything yet, if not a lion probably is not the way to start.
my uncle gave me some 130 grain power shock ammo and according to what I have read, that is suitable for thin skinned game like lion
Ballistic tip, like the dominion 150 grain round nose plastic tip my uncle has for his 308? I would switch ammo type for a rare hunt like this. Thank you for the suggestion
I think you smoke weed and play on the computer maybe too much.

Please refer to the section on lions. It is a legal-minimum so anything lower than .375 is no good I believe. Hope this helps.
Gatehouse will be happy to hear of the .375 rule
Welcome to the site!
lol I am addicted to Cabela's big game hunter, at least my mom says so. But I have been given a trip to Africa as a grad present and I would like to take the opportunity to go hunting, I am in contact with some safaris over there and I will be able to afford a lion cull hunt it seems. :)
Has anyone gotten to go to africa to hunt? what are the restrictions on how much ammo I can take. Can I bring the lion back with me?
I think whoever gave the present doesn't like you.
lol my whole family pinched in. It is an awesome gift, I have dreamed of Africa since I saw the Lion King when I was a kid.
I shot my brothers 30-06 and it kicked alot. It doesnt have a cushion on it and it really bruised my arm. No way I am going to shoot a bigger gun
Yappy How big do them male lions get? Cause if you shoot a holland and holland it could kick pretty hard what about flinching? Jel kick
Go away !
To Africa
Take pictures and have somebody mail them back, good luck.
Id imagine a lion would weigh at least as much as I do, even more. I saw one in the zoo in Toronto, and it was magnificent. When I passed my CORE I knew I had to fulfill my dream of bagging an african lion.
Has anyone read the book "Death in the long grass"? the writer shoots many lions with 7mm which I believe is less powerful than my 270. :???:
I not sure but I think you are an experienced fisherman.
You might want to hunt a few years and get some experience. By the sounds of things your going to get yourself in a lot of trouble. If you get the right gun, recoil pad and practice good shooting techniques the problems with fear of recoil will go away...Good Luck.
Yoodle you type good in fact quite well. Why not try a Grizz hunt first, they are big too and could be a great challenge, unless your just pulling our legs?
THis sucker is the first thing that 'got it' after I got my CORE. My cousin lended me his 22 and I nailed this vermin on my first shot. I was so pumped.
Because I dont have a car (public transport or rents drive me) I never got to go hunting for anything like bucks last fall. Maybe I should ask for a cheap car instead of the trip to Tanzania lol
lol good job. I havent gotten past the 4th level, cant find the damn trophy Kudu! :x
has anyone got an answer why a lion, from africa, couldnt be transplanted to BC? would they die in the winters? Man, that would be sweet if we had more animals to hunt here in BC than we do now.
I'm pissing myself laughing so hard reading this thread!!
...I agree with longshot!...go away!!!.... no start another thread yappy, you add lots of humour!!
....boom...
The 270 with a 130gr pill is a fine African Lion cartridge, and you can do no better than the Remngton 710, a fine rifle. Have fun on your trip!
Im glad you guys are enjoying this, but seriously I have alot of questions, and nobody I know hunts, not as serious as you guys at least. I was told about this site by a guy who I met down at the local sports shop where I was picking up some hunting DVDs
good to hear I have what it takes to do the job, push come to shove. I bought the gun with the money I saved up from my summer job, and picked the 270 because it is fast like a laser lol. Also I like the remington because it has a clip and it had a scope on it that was all ready to hunt with right out of the box. :D
I guess it truly is legal to bait everything but bears in BC :)
And jump right back in after you shoot him with the 130 grain bee sting lol. Then let him beat himself to death against the side of your jeep. lol
good luck
from what I have read, the hunting is usually done over a dead animal like baboon or chicken scraps. You sit in a hut and wait for up to 3 hours before the lion will brave himself into letting a hunter see him. A clip is nice because you can instantly load your weapon and you are guaranteed to get 4 shots off before needed to ram the other clip in
g2g study, keep the info coming guys!
I can see it now . Tanzania Gazette. french fry chef from Surrey eaten by lion:biggrin::biggrin:
LOL I know the story behind this guy ! *****
I see see the makings of a really good new reality show, someone should get hold of Mark Burnett pronto!!:?
take that 270 and 130gr up toward squamish somewhere this spring and shoot the first lone black bear you see. let me know how it works out for you. then decide if your ready for a lion:lol::lol::lol:
YYD make sure you get several "clips" for your gun, you will want to load and fire rapidly- You need to get some lead in the air!!
