Through May - July we had a cougar making cam appearances often while also getting lots of deer action - so at least in this case the cougar didn't push them out. One doe even had rake marks down its side and a nice rip and dangling blood clot - assume from the cat - and she stuck around. I think the disappearing is mostly seasonal - who knows where they go tho.

I get cats on cam yr round, consistently.
They are simply part of the landscape.
I still have numerous does on cam every day .... on all cams.
Curious part is that the 3 yr old+ bucks are the only missing customers.
As this is the 3rd yr of observing the same pattern ...... it is not pred related.
20 plus cams all show the same results over the yrs.
Re: Some Big Whities For Ya...
I am due to pull some WT cams in the near future.
I was going thru my camcorder deleting videos and reviewing some older footage.
I know this isn't whitetail related but worth sharing....
358mag and I were packed in for Mule Deer.
We had an early start hiking in before light.
A few decent bucks were seen but nothing special.
We usually have a nap around 11am and recharge the batteries before hunting the back half of the day.
I was deep in lala land when I am woken by pieces of wood being thrown at me.
I open one eye and look at 358.
He slowly points his finger and says, "wanna kill a big Mule Deer?"
There, standing in front of us, is a solid buck. Pretty sure he was a buck we knew of.
Very respectable.
Good weight and splits so he would throw up decent numbers.
If you look closely you will see he is quite tall as well, solid buck, 180 class
358 didn't so much as reach for his gun that was right beside him.
He could have shot that buck 10 times over.
When the buck eventually spooked off in the howling wind, 358 simply laid back down and closed his eyes.
The guy kills me.
Ridiculous standards and stone cold.

Re: Some Big Whities For Ya...
Settling in and prepared for the inevitable lull that plagues my WT area this time of year for mature bucks.
Pulled a cam that is outside of my core area.
Usually pretty consistent for elk in addition to WT
Sad to see, despite numerous bulls on cam, that the average age class continues to implode.
Aggressive logging practices, an ever increasing First Nations presence and harvest, are taking a toll in this particular area.
No point in bitching, just gotta adapt and roll with it.

In addition to the human factor there is the endless parade of preds.
Simply part of the landscape.
