Probably dozens of these along a couple km stretch of FSR. Never seen them before. My guess is some kind of insect/bug trap for studying or maybe pest management? Anyone know exactly?

Yes, they are an insect trap for forestry
Called a Lundgren Funnel trap. Used to collect beetles. Pine beetle in the woods, spruce and fir at log yards.
Pheromone is placed in the bottom, beetles land, slip slide all the way down to the bottom, whole is too small for them to fly out of..
Presently there are many insect collecting traps throughout the Sayward forest area at the forest service campsites. I saw lots last weekend around the Brewster Lake area and they were all full of yellow jackets. I assumed they were looking for any evidence of the monster wasps that are currently showing up in southern B.C.
I saw a bunch of those traps up by Loon Lake
These ones were all in region 3 near Kamloops.
