Being born here and growing up with a deep appreciation for nature, as an innocent child I thought we were all “stewards of the land”. Always running around outside in bare feet like Pocahontas, I thought I belonged here, in nature, in Canada. I thought we had equality for fellow Canadians of all colours. Then one day I realized that people who have been here for generations are still considered “immigrants” and have different rules. O Canada, Our home and native land… only applies to some.
