Anything you would hunt deer with is appropriate. I've killed bears cleanly with everything from a .223 up to a 375 Ruger.

There is always more participation with a lottery style entry system than just a "biggest bear wins" system.

There is a 7mm Winchester Magnum. It's just the short and beltless version. :)
