Took a peak at these tonight - considering a 55lb Recurve.

The wood on these bows is amazing - anyone know if they shoot as good as they look?

please don't try to convince me to get a compound, I don't want one

For the money there is probably not a better bow anywhere. They are nice looking and nice shooting. Lots of guys have more than one and only shoot chek-mates. I have never heard a bad word about them. I would love to own their longhorn.

I think you will be well pleased. I believe they are being made here on the Island now. Down near Parksville somewhere.

Have you looked at the custom bows made in Prince George? I have never seen one but i heard they were nice.

:-D Hey Amp , I agree with Leftcoast . Chek-Mate is the best bow value out there. Your choice in the TD Hunter 11 is what I would recomend .

Good luck in your Traditional Endevors .

I have a Chek-mate 1 and really like it. Try and find a store that has some for sale or buy used. If you order direct from the builder you will be waiting a long time. There was a couple for sale on Cdn Gun Nutz.

:-D I understand they now have a Take-Down Hunter 111 . The shoot ability of the TD 11 was a lot better than it`s predecessor and am looking forward to the TD 111.
Cheers

We have three shooters in our family and all of them shoot Checkmate Bows and in fact one of them (me) has well more than a few...

Check the comments on Tradgang.com and you will find that they are often rated as the most bow you can get for the money....

The Hunter lll has a smaller riser handle than the ll I believe.

Hey RoscoeP , I think that would provide even more shoot ability as there would be less hand torque involved and with riser mass to each side of your bow hand where it is effective .

You are probably right, I only mentioned that because "Amphibious" said he had a big hand and liked a larger grip.
