Well it all started with trying to figure out how to make a mojo remote.

The reason they are great is because often geese won't land into your spread if your spinners are running. Also, ducks seeing them running time and time again may get suspicious of them, so shutting them off when the ducks are coming in could really make a difference to getting them to commit.

I mean how hard could it be? Its an on and off switch!! $50 for one plus taxes is a bit crazy. As I have 3 of them, it would have been a sufficient expense. So I made this thread....

http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/showthread.php?76858-Home-built-Remote-controlled-mojo-duck&highlight=mojo+remote+boar

I didn't really get the answers there that I was looking for.

So I started digging. I ended up looking at a 6 volt remote on/off on ebay. (standard mojo is 6 volts) The item number is 261072949172, buy a few if you want.

For $13.50 total, I just thought I would giver a go.

I hooked it up and after 10 minutes it was tested to work. I moved the receiver box inside the duck, and went out to 30 yards. Seems like it works and all is a go.

Well the reason I only bought one, even though I have 3 mojos, is because this item is a 6 volt and the twin pack of baby mojos is 9 volt. So I bought this one and thought I would test it out on the 9 volt baby as I found some things online that said it should also work on a 12 volt connection. Sure enough, I hooked it up, and it worked!

If anyone eles buys one of these I will post up pics of how you hook it up. All tools needed are a knife and some electrical tape. Takes about 10 minutes.

Enjoy. Here is a video of the 9 volt working (click on the pic below)

Thank you. I've been trying to solve this very problem with no luck. I tried a Mojo remote and it worked part time so it went back.

Have you tested for range ? Can they be coded so one remote runs two or more units ?
Thats a lot cheaper than the $100 units I bought a year ago.

I am not sure on the coding. I will have to do some digging on that. Not sure if its the remote or the receiver that would get changed. I know you can extend the range with a quick fix on youtube

or try this?

Hi BB,

Two things - how long did it take to get your remotes from the seller on ebay

Second I have ordered two for my baby Mojos, can you send me the wiring instructions

Thanks

Ordered a couple from Hong Kong and took about 2 weeks to get here
The guy even put on the declaration that they were "gifts".....so no duty
Gonna hook them up and give them a go

works like a hot damn!!
both remotes seem to be keyed differently and only work the specific box it came with.
I put the duck at the back of the garage in the back yard and stood at the front corner of the house (about 45 yards) and it worked no problem
had good range.

Got my remote in 10 working days. Installed it yesterday and it is the "Cat's Meow" meaning it functions like a dream.

Wicked, glad to hear it is working for people. Should be good for shutting them off when the geese lock on tomorrow.

Yep, they work great - note - when the remote stops turning the mojo off, its time to change batteries or recharge....:icon_frow

Or put the remote inside your jacket, then tend to loose large amounts of range in the cold

I was just going to post the same advice. I thought my Hong Kong special had died, but when I re-charged the battery, all is well.

Has anyone tried another brand of battery for the Mojo or are they all about the same performance?

I have the 49.99 name brand remote, Dave's is better than mine.

I installed and used all 3 of mine today, in the mojo babies, and in the regular mojo. All worked well, at long distance though, I tried the trick of holding the remote to my head, and it actually worked better. Give it a try!

Yep - that's what happned to me.

I have two installed in Baby Mojos, the other day I had both spinning away, some ducks came and had look, so I flicked the off button - One went dead instantly the other just kept spinning...

I walked up to the spinning one, when I was within three feet of it, it switched off...

At first I thought the battery in the remote was done... anyhow I switched the battery packs in the mojos and the problem just followed the weak battery back into the other mojo...

Now I keep the spare battery pack loaded with fresh AA's, and when the remote stops working I simply switch battery packs for the fresh ones - and the jobs a good one!

Big Boar
got my remote in the mail today and am curious on how big of a fuse did you put in

BiG Boar
01-14-2013, 06:35 PM
My original mojo had a fuse which I left in it. The new babies didnt have a fuse, so I didn't put one in.

Blacktail

yup same here....no fuse

Thank you for figuring this out and posting your results.
After looking at many LML stores I just found Baby Mojos at Italian Sporting Goods and my first thought was 'Wish it had a remote'.
I will be following your instructions to install, thanks again.

First ever duck hunt tomorrow. One mojo is our entire deke setup. The journey begins.

bringing deer rifles in case Murphy's law holds and we see no ducks but lots of deer.

If you take the receiver apart (2 small phillips screws) there is a yellow wire coiled up inside. This is the antenae. If you uncoil the wire and bring it outside of the receiver box, the range improves greatly.

Take a file and make a small notch for the wire in the receiver box so it doesn't pinch the wire.

These remotes work very well and thanks to Big Boar for your help guiding me through the wiring process.

I'll do the upgrade after the weekend. How did you make the discovery? This sounds way better than holding the remote to your head!

Thats cool, I'll have to give this a try. Already work pretty good for me. Glad to hear yours are spinning. (when you want)

If a person bought a two channel unit would that control two ducks independently?

BiG Boar
01-30-2014, 01:24 PM
I'm not sure. It would be nice to figure out a way to turn them all on or off together at once using one remote. I've got 3 separate remotes to my "flock" and it's a bit of a nuisance dealing with 3 remotes. I'm sure there's a way to program them all together but I wouldn't have the slightest clue where to start.
