I use Underwoods and got my Dad Stoneypoints for last Christmas. I practice a lot with them sitting at long range and they are "the sh*t" if you've got the time to use them. I originally wanted to get a Harris bipod but I hunt a lot of timber once the deer are out of the highcountry. For me it's the best alternative. Timber - don't usually need them. Alpine -use them or my backpack layed out prone!

I use them when hunting in open country. Made my own out of two hockey sticks, work great. Don't even bother with my bi-pod anymore, I find these worth way more, and If I am going prone I got my back-pack.
This is how I made mine... http://www.varmintal.com/abifu.htm

I use these as well. Very light and compact and can be deployed quickly.

Never go with out them.

I just bought a mono pod from a place on Ebay. Thought about it for a long time, can't get too much help when the time comes.

On my last trip to Edmonton I bought a set of Stoney Point Polecat telescoping bipod Explorer model at P&d. Just getting into using them but they do make quite a difference. I'm hoping to get an Antelope draw in southern Alberta in the next few years, and with the possibility of a long shot, I'll need all the help/assistance I can get.

Varmint Al's recipie is what I used for my sticks too (slightly modified). But I only pack them around in open country when I think I might find myself looking at a really long shot opportunity (which for me is anything north of 100 yards). Back in the thick bush where I do 90% of my hunting, I don't cary nothing, as I shoot plenty well offhand for the 20 to 40 yard shots usually presented.

I pack the steady stix II as well. I have not actually used them yet though I never seem to have time to get set up. My brother in law used them last spring though when he shot his bear they worked great and he made a good shot for his first big game animal.

Hey
I made a set out of old fiberglass ski poles. I removed the round flat pushing part off the bottom and the grip. I had to figure a non permanent way to join them together to form a X for a shot that was adjustable for height. I found a thick elastic band and slid it over the two ski poles. If I need a high X or a low X, I can adjust it in about 1 second. It doubles as a walking stick too.

Total cost....$0.00
