That looks to be the Oz version. There were a few.
What's the OAL on your cartridge? It appears to be warm. At 3.05", you're looking at a bit over 50,000PSI.

The oal is about right it was 3.04 on those loads. When I got the barreled action back I was told the load for it was 40gr of IMR4064 with a 105 gr bullet. So I had been using that as a max load. Most accurate load was 38.2 gr 4064 95 gr BT average was 3045.76fps. 5 shot group was little cloverleaf.

That would make sense. Your accurate load would be around 46,000 PSI. With that action, I would have called 39.0 grains the max.

RR,
Can't see your picture. Is it the standard case configuration necked down to 6mm?
I had Bevan King build me a 25-303 Imp about thirty years ago. It had a 40 degree shoulder, blown out body and one caliber neck length.
100 gr bullets were a tad over 3000 fps, with 4831 in a No 4 Long Branch.
Will see if I have a case laying around here to post a picture.
Ted

Mine is an Improved version just not as fat as Epps.Yours is an Epps .Acouple of years ago a fella from manitoba got ahold of me about a 25 epps he had on an enfield. He was using 4831 and said he was going to try 7828.I lost his contact info and never heard how it worked out.

The one you have is likely the Australian version.

Rich, does this mean we are giving up on the other board in favor of this board where they are very generous to give us a *wildcat* Index?
:D

RR...ever heard of the .25/303?
Hey Freshtracks I saw a 25/303 at a gun shop in Lake Cowichan it's sold now. It was supposed to be a WWII sniper rifle so the shop owner told me. It was interesting to say the least.

LOL...that's a good story to make a sale. A old F & G club member of mine built a few up...sweet shooting gun. I believe he was intrigued to build one after reading about it as a Wildcat from down south. He actually had RCBS make his dies based on a casing he did.
Any chance that 25/303 was on a sportorized (sp) Pakerhale stock? How much were they asking? I've got 2 boxes of ammo sitting here....long story. :(
It wasn't a sporterized stock it. It had a heavy barrel and a really thick fore stock on this puppy. It looked like it was a WWII age rifle. Like you said it was an interesting story but when did the 25/303 begin? It would be interesting to find out its history.
Marc.
I have heard of it. I have a few pieces of 25-303 headstamped brass from Australia .Who first necked the 303 down to 25 will probably never be known.
In OZ it was a common conversion with no other changes. In Canada the 303 Epps would be more common.Necked down and improved.

Yes if I'm not mistaking the ol friend of my (who by the way is a handloader junkie) when he first built his first 25-303 had mentioned OZ land. So RR is probably right in it was developed there in OZ land.

I'm thinkin' I read somewhere that these were developed for Kangaroo rifles. I could be wrong, but it was a good article about Varminting in Australia. They had lots of stuff in Rook rifles/chamberings but started playing with a mountain of surplus arms and ended up with a pile of 303-based cartridges for various arms.

Marc, finally got your message, had a mixup with my e-mails, thanks.
I have the 25/303 Marc speaks of. It is a P14 Eddystone with the ears ground off, the trigger altered and the bottom metal straightened. It has a target style stock and a 28" varminter weight barrel. The scope rings are possibly custom made. They have their mount screws on the side of the ring base. Hard to explain. The reciever is drilled and tapped on the sides, not in line with the centre. The scope is like something I've never seen before. Haven't been able to identify it. The reticle is a tapered post. Not your normal post. This one looks like a swizzel stick. It's got a couple of bends and what looks like hairs sticking out the side of it. Could use them as a range finder!!!
Marc, you can tell guy it's a real sniper scope and worth at least a grand, that'll get things stirred up. You'll have the last laugh!

My one adventure into wildcat (well pretty well wildcat today) and custom was some 20 years ago when I had a classic custom (no expense spared) rifle built on a FM M98 action in .308 Norma Magnum. This calibre is pretty well a wildcat category today, even though factory ammo and brass is available from Norma.
I am so satisfied with it that I have another identical action just waiting for another custom rifle.
Cheers,
Magnum

The mounting setup for your rifle is for a 30 Remington. The 3 profiles that seem to be standard for P14s and M17s is Win model 70,Rem model 30 and model 700.
