It wasn't until I downloaded the pictures that I realised I caught this all on film...

Here's Dave putting on his secret attraction cologne

Now the this pic and then next are a little rough..

But as you can see in the poor early morning light, instead of putting on his snow goose colone, he put on his SWAN cologne!

We had 2 dozens swans decoy right into our snow goose spread this morning, and many others come awfully close, quite a sight to see birds with 9 foot wingspans work to the spread, not hooking and turning with these big boys, they are on final approach a lonnnnnnggggg ways back!

Here's another group that landed long of us..

And the most surprizing thing was there complete ignorance of gun fire, I shot a teal to the left, with swans 30-50yards to the right side and they didn't even flinch!

The goal of snows and pintails didn't happen, but we both had a great time.... Oh and if I ever lecture about drop offs around ladner, do as I say, not as I do!

Very best,

Ian

Yeah i've noticed that they are fairly fearless myself.....used to hunt out in the valley and remember the swans.
They wouldn't even flinch at the gunshots.....our yelling at them etc. I guess its kinda like any game they KNOW wether or not you can shoot them. Buggers..hehe

ps...you should tell dave to try the cologne when out with the ladies.......a few swans simmin around the romantic boat ride would prob work well.

Hi Ian,

You get any snows?

I was out on the Brunswick Point foreshore yesterday, but no snows came close. There are sure zillions out there though.

Saw somebody in a duck punt drifting by about 8:30. That wasn't you was it?

No snows close enough to shoot Friday morning either, though I got a couple mallards with my new 870. Yay!

Ian see many snows? Sounds like MichelD ran into few. From last Monday's lack of sighting, I thought they all went to the states. If they arer still around, go and get them... they won't stay up here much longer...

Preston,

Yes tons of snows still around, they where up in the marsh on the islands when Dave and I went out, today (sunday) they where out front, but I was in back with my canoe. Only did a quickie hunt..

Michel,

None for us, but we had a great shoot nonetheless. Unless you where at the wellington launch or in by the islands you wouldn't ahve seen us.

Very best,

Ian

Couple less drops of xxxxx and I'll get the mix just right, the bottle said for big white birds, must have used too much. Either way if I hadn't put my camo gun down in the weeds when setting the decoys, we would have had a better chance with that first flight of snows that came over (I couldn't find the damn thing in time).

I fully believe that Ian was really just showing me how to keep most of the water out of your waders, when you step off a drop-off. You have to admire a man who teaches by example:). If I remember one of Dano's posts correctly, it had to be Ian's second swim this season.

Shooting teal in December, having yet to even think about cool weather, let alone cold weather duckin gear... Hell it was so warm I needed a dunkin to cool off, yeah that's my story...

Make sure you get the righ bottle this weekend!
