Ok I know this has been talked about a little.

My questions are:

1. when fishing tidal waters how long should your cord length be?

2. Is it benneficial to have more than one decoy connected to an anchor?

These questions are for Mallards and I only have 12 in total just getting started :)

Thanks in advance

I run all singles with 16' of cord, it works for me. K

really depends on the depth at low tide. I know in the ladner marsh 18 feet was kinda short for some spots.

I'm guessing you are talking the Estuary when we hunt it we use 10' camo cord and 5 0z canon balls so it doesnt glare obvious as the tide drops. I am a huge perponent of 1 deek 1 weight it just gives you way more options IMO.

I was just wondering the same thing! Got the Canadian Tire 12 pack on sale.

For those really long anchor lines, do you just shorten them up with a knot when you don't need the full length? Keep a bunch of extra lines with big swivels on each end?

I'm thinking about this kit for rigging: http://tinyurl.com/8f485hw (Greenhead gear from Cabela). Is that ok for Ladner-type waters?

1 Roll decoy string- $3-$5
12 5oz cannonballs-$1.20-$1.30 each
50 pac of heavy rubber bands from the $ store- $.99
Cheaper better and more convieniant.
For shorter line just wrap it around the kiel and put a 1/2 hitch around the kiel hook.

We are long liners. Have to move lots in the tidal water. We can pick up the set, move across the marsh and set up again in 20 min.

Like F350ps I used to run 15-16' of cord when hunting the foreshore.I also used 12oz. wts,as I found that on an outgoing tide in a channel your lines would foul heavily with eel grass causing a lighter weight to lift. There's better things to be doing when the birds are flying than chasing drifting decoys around the marsh! This is the best system going but for long lining/tides, maybe not. The principle holds though if you up the weight and length. I never run more than 10' of cord so this is pretty slick for me.

On my rids I add the heavey rubber band just above the cannon ball and streach it over the keel to prevent unwinding and tangeling

i use a rubber band aswell to keep it from tangling. i have tried to tie more to one weight and i found it just got hard to keep untangled and it would be a big birdsnest after a while. I need to go pick up some weights gotta add that to the "to do" list
