Well I got home late last night from the fly in trip....

The trip started upside down, upon arriving to meet the pilot we were advised that our area from last year had a group in our spot already so with them and the guide camp near by my buddy had the pilot fly us into a area he hunted three years back. When we arrived I noticed a float plane on the lake with other hunters. Either way the area was big and looked just perfect! with the lake and what to appeared to be a fire on parts of the mountain from years previous it said "good hunting all over it". (please if you know the area don't post the location, my buddy would be pissed.) I had a grz encounter also I'll explain later

On the 14th we scouted about to find where the animals were moving around to get a better game plan for the opening day. We didn't see any huge bull moose but we did see a few nice big bull elk with my spotting scope. We saw 3x3's 5x5's and a 5x6. With the any bull moose season and the three point Elk season getting an animal wouldn't be too hard if you worked for it, which we did! Hunting from a pack is a tonne of work...as you guys know getting within range for a Elk would be plain skill or plain luck, moose are swamp donkeys that says it all

We started our morning on the 15th at 4am by getting up to eat and be off by quarter to five. Around 7am I spotted a moose which appeared to be a cow. My buddy was going to wrap around to see if he could find a bull hiding about, as soon as he left the moose eating decided he didn't like he moving in too close and started to walk off at 80 yards. I then noticed it was packing small head gear at a broadside angle, head on all I could see was EARS. As soon as I raised my rifle my buddy shot it. Here I am thinking what ever happened to you see it you shoot it theory? The moose was a small 2yr old bull.

The 16th we hiked up into a open plain were we saw Elk and Moose the day before with our spotting scopes. When we got up there we found six cows (moose) just watching us at maybe 50 yards....no bull moose. We the headed across the plain and then I spotted a white ass in the hole or gulley. The hole held water and the animal was drinking and eating around it. It was an Elk! I then counted its points, 1-2-3 forget the rest its legal. We managed to get within 200 yards. I set up my bipod and got ready to fire. The Elk must have heard us or smelled us because he just watched us. All of a sudden then took off running, my buddy yells fire fire I say i got him don't worry he says again fire fire I aim about 1-2ft in front of him fire and follow through with the shot. Down he went a NICE 5x5 Bull Elk. I'd say a fluke of a shot! my heart was pounding

my motion camera got two pictures of a cow elk, the first picture is a extreme close up...the elk fogged the camera, this is the second picture after the deed was done

Well it looks like you guys had an awesome time. Doesn’t look like your freezer will be empty for a while. Nice animals and great story. Hopefully there will be many more successful stories to follow from other members as the fall progresses.
