duck hunt pic

we shot our limit the other morning. took a good photo with the dog etc. but the duck's were all dirty locals. even the mallard drakes head's were still only half green. can't wait until the northerns start to show. anyone seen any down here in the lower mainland yet?

colouration has nothing to do with origin, it has to do with how far along the duck is towards it's breeding plummage.

I see a mix of eclipse to full colour every time out.

Oh,... i just notice when those big late season duck's move in they have those brilliant mallard drake colours. super glowing orange feet, big brown chest, yellow/green beak. the early ducks down here look all small and dull.

The point is that those early ducks turn into late ducks..
