I Took the Boy out for a Morning Grouse hunt. He certainly enjoyed himself.
I can't wait till he can get his CORE. Till then he gets to pack the Birds back to the truck. The next 5 Years will feel like forever for him now ! LOL !

For some Tradition we used My Late GrandFather's (okay it's mine now) Model 1912 Takedown 20 gauge. She still puts the Meat on the Table just fine.
Literally seen Hundreds of Grouse today......best year I've ever seen for them.....at least around here. We had our limit in 10 Minutes.
So we spent the rest of the Morning looking for a Fat Lil Sausage Bear but no Luck. I guess there ALL in Town right now
Had a Blast and My Boy Handled his 1st Birdie Outing just Great !
He's got the Eye for spotting them too !

Judging by the smiles it was a day he won't forget for a long time.I'd bet that he won't let you go hunting without him now.Looks like it was an awesome day congrats.

Time well spent Will. I'm taking my boy out this year for the first time and hope to create some lasting memories like your trip.

Right on! I started taking my boy for grouse when he was about 5 and now he goes with me on deer hunts. For a kid that can't stand still or pipe down at home, he's unbelieveably quiet and still in the woods! He turns 10 and is taking CORE this winter, so next fall should be a real hoot when he can shoot his own (under my watchful eye of course).

Reading your story and looking at the pics of your little guy draggin grouse around sure cheered me up on an otherwise monotenous day at my desk! Thanks and keep up the fine work.

My first grouse hunt was so long ago that I really can't remember it. It was with my Grand dad and my father though, both since passed on. I still prefer small game and birds to this very day and truely love the outdoors.(if I wasn't sick right now you'd never get me to admit to that). lol Fred
