I think it depends somewhat on your setup. But....something in the "cut-on-contact" type are the best heads. Anything that is legal in the cutting diameter is acceptable for game that is "deer-sized". You may want to consider something with a larger cutting diameter if you are going after larger game, but it is not critical. What is critical is shot placement. Can't say enough about that.

In this category there is a lot to choose from, including expandable heads, and fixed blades.

You will likely get a whole lot of opinions on this topic and a lot of recommendations of the "personal preference" type.

My personal preference are the Razorcaps. They can be viewed here...http://www.razorcaps.com

For me they fly like my field tips (as is often stated) and they are definitely in the "cut on contact" category. They are strong, sharp, and deadly.

Another is the Slick Trick brand. These to are in my quiver. I have not been disappointed with either of these heads. Both are lethal, sharp, and easy to tune. Very easy to tune.

Good luck with you quest.

I like cut on contact g5 montecs or muzzys others will say slick tricks its really a personal thing. Any broadhead will work if they are sharp and you can hit what you are aiming at.

I have the Muzzy 3 blade broadheads but haven't put one into anything yet. Heck, I haven't even had a shot at anything yet, so, it is only on the recommendation of people that I know and respect that I got them. One plus for me is that my Muzzys fly to the exact point of impact as my field tips( well at least they group the same:roll:)! Fred

personally, i love the mechanicals i have taken lots of animals down with the spitfire 100gr, and recently started shooting the grimreaper100's aswell and have taken 3 down with those ones, both seem to work exceptionally well for me and i like the fact that they always shoot the same as a field point so you dont have to tune your bow to the broad head..
it is all personal preference...just experiment you will find the right one for you...
cheers....ddog

Like Fred says, in most detail, X2. In addition, using the 100gr Mussys, I like the practice blades that can be used for testing. They group well but I haven't 'tuned things' so they hit the same point of aim as the field tips. Slight sight adjustment required when going from one to the other. I'll have to work on that.

Hummer, I use the 100gr Muzzy's but a 125gr field tip. It was an accident buying the lighter broadheads but it worked out well. Fred

Do both hit the same point of aim?

here's a couple pics from a bear that I had dispatched using a muzzy 125 broadhead. The shot was from approx 27 yards. I would question using mechanical heads in this way. The strength and depenabilty I have had with these heads have been great.
Mechanical heads do have there place but not on that day with that bear!!

Do both hit the same point of aim?

They both hit more or less to the same point of aim. With my eyes though the group is about 4 inches from 15 yards. I find that some arrows group together and some do not. That is to say, that 2 or 3 will group the same and others will group together but not at exactly the same spot. I feel that this has to do with the arrows though not the broadheads. Fred
