Story...... Had a 15 hp 2 stroker on my boat (18 foot bellbouy) This boat never let us down and never caught dog fish. Last year we put a new honda 9.9 4 stroker on and haven't caught s.f.a. except dog fish since!!!! Is it just me or is it that crap bucket honda junk spooking the fish. Have heard that they need to be grounded to the main engine block and neg terminal of the battery what do you think?????????????

please advisehttp://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon13.gifhttp://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif

put a meter from your deepline and your battery and see what the voltage is. You may have to do some grounding, or you might get a black box to regulate your voltage down your wire lines.

It's been a long time since I did any salt chuck fishing, but the last year we did the Scotty black boxes were all the rage. I know guys that were getting skunked till they turned them on and then skunked again when they turned them off!!!

As elkster said voltage is every thing. Put all your gear down, pos on the downrigger cable, neg on battery For salmon it should be .600 to .750 check your zinks and any thru hull tht might be metal some bonding (grounding) may be required good luck Steve

thks all will run a multi meter over the wires and test the voltage if nec. ground out the motor and then try the black box

If you go with the black box look in the buy sell and trades, etc. As with all boating and fishing stuff you can pick up some good used stuff.

The pro troll black box works as good for 1/3 the price. Bummer on the voltage change in your boat, i am fortunate as you were previously, my boat fishes well and have great success and have no use for a black box. Good luck!
