Well new for me! Really stoked!!

Just picked up this puppy today after months of looking at boats and being disappointed. This is EXACTLY what I invisioned. 16.5 welded HEAVY DUTY aluminum skiff. almost 6 feet wide and really deep. 2 of us stood on the rail at the marina and it didnt budge. Needs a bigger engine, some paint and a blind.

Look out seaducks 2011 is gonna be bad for you.

Its a yammy 9.9 pushes the boat about 10km/hr at full throttle lol, shes rated for up to a 75. Gonna get a 40 for her probably.

Nice!!!
I guess that davit and pulley will come in handy for lifting the 2
cases of ammo into the skiff. I know it will take at least that for you and
303 Brit. to limit out?????

You just got yourself a dandy boat. I've had one for years.
http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo126/branthunter/DSC_0191_2.jpg
8 yrs. ago I had this thing out in Boundary Bay with 500 lbs. of hunter in it when it was so rough we could barely move around the boat to set the lines. When we headed offshore from the ramp we looked like one of those Australian surfboat pictures. I used it as a towboat mainly and started with a 25 hp. then moved up to the 30 you see in the pic and now have a 40 and that's what it needs to tow the two punts plus a couple of hunters. I wish I had a 50 but the 40 is adequate. I originally wanted it for the safety factor it provides when I was making the long run in the dark back to my shack at the bridge from out front of the refuge thru the Albion slough with my son when he was much younger than you see in this pic. I've had it out to Tofino fishing the surfline and over to the Gulf Islands and it's a great crabbing boat too. It'll take pretty much any water or abuse.

Are you gonna also get some Salmon with that arc Lorne?? Sweet boat! The 75 horse should do you pretty good.

How stable is the boat on a plane?? If you get a wabble, look into some hydraulic or even electric trim tabs... or you can even just throw on leg fins, which even out the torque from the prop to a more horizontal figure.

Heres a video on its maiden after i added about 400 lbs of ballast and stabilizer fins. She was pretty skittish at first, when i was by my self no ballast she was doing 38 mph and sliding around a bit. Almost flipped her straight up out of the hole. Its gets on plane in about 2 seconds. With people, ballast and gear she is a dream rig and does around 27. I always harassed the buddy that took the video that he was scared of a 16 foot boat with a new 75 on it. hahaha thats where the song came from.

That is pretty darn quick, she sits perfectly on the plane, looks like the 75 certainly knows how to wake up and go!

That's a sweet ride!!! Good video. Flat bottomed skiffs can haul a ton of cargo. That will make a great waterfowling, crabbing, fishing combo. Congrats.

Keep posting up your progress with her.

So our fields are a bust for this weekend, and its too freaking hot to hunt furry things, so today as the day i decided to paint the boat. Still needs a few touch ups but not bad. 6 spray cans of rustloeum flat grey for the inside and the dark over the grey on the outside and 1 gallon of rust paint flat light grey oil based water restistant primer as a base coat for the outside!

Blind gets built is next weekend.

Hahahaha you recognized that paint scheme? lol Bankes boats is only 2 hours away from where i grew up, so all our rigs and layouts for divers back east were painted to match his scheme.

Well boys no real updates other then i have 50% of the frame for the blind done. I am taking pictures as i go so i can show the construction and complete f ing around i have done. You can buy an avery pop blind for $500. do it. hahaha its quite a bit of tiral and error bringing what in my mind to be practical. However i did see a group of about 200 of various scoters and harlis yesterday so the drive is on to get er done in time.

PICS PICS PICS!! I'd never spend that much on a blind.... homemade is the way to go if you got the tools, materials, know how, and the willing to do what is called trial and error ;)

Well thats the problem not even including my time I havent saved much.

6 10 foot peices of 3/4 inch galvanized emt - $90 bucks
2 cans of flat back spray bbq paint for painting emt both to get rid of glare and protect from the salt. $20
Misc, Bimini fittings, swivels attachments, quick releases, clevis pins nuts bolts etc. $100 (everthing has to be stainless for obvious reasons)
2-2x4x8, 2-2x4x10, $20
1-30x20 dark heavy duty green tarp $50ish
1-20x10 camo netting(which im not sure is enoug, will find out sunday....$120
So im in 400 as of right now.. and i am about 70 percent sure ill need another 20x10 camo netting, which will put me close before taxes of one already built.

However it wouldn't be custom like everything else on the boat:)

Well I am down to the short strokes( i hope!) hahah

Finally got the frame done. 303 gave gave me a quick hand today bracing it which was helpful all i have left to is but the tarps and netting and close off the front and back.

So...... i started by mounting 2 2x4's to the front and back with L brackets and SS nuts and bolts. I drilled right through the boat.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u279/LorneP/P1010515.jpg

After that I built the front bracing. I used 3/4 emt and 7/8 bimini hardware. the 3/4 didnt fit in it so a cored it out a bit and used a heat gun.

Next I built the back. This is what took the most amount of time. With 2 people It wouldnt have been bad, but it being my first run and the size of it it was hard to guess at things especially with the 2 tiered apporach. this resulted in alot of cutting, fitting refitting, taking things apart etc.

the frame and Braces are help together with ss bolts and wing nuts, but i am going to use trailer celvis pins for the front to make it super quick to put it down to rerive birds and decoys. Shold have her all done by next weekend. The whole thing goes up and down in under a minute. I didnt take a pic of it down but it folds right down. Which i will secure with bungees for travel to and from duck hunting spots. Heres some more pics.

I could use some of the goldeneyes for a trip I've got planned. Gotta rig up the 1dz canvasbacks on longline clips.

Blinds looking good, and I gotta agree, sometimes is easier and cheaper in the end to pay someone else for a product they already have sunk money into to create and produce. Cheaper in the end sometimes
