Anyone heard how the Alberni canal is shaping up for sockeye? I've been ridiculously busy with work to even think about going fishing:-? .

I think traditionally the 1st week of July is the best but you should start seeing them soon. I'm off to Bamfield for halis this weekend so there may be opportunity to try for sockeye on the way there or back. I hope the weather isn't too crappy.

Well sorry it took so long to give the fishing report but there wasn't much to tell. It was a bit of a bust as far as fishing went. The motor gave us grief as we left Alberni. We set some prawn traps that ended up getting raided (oh and we lost 2 to a tug and boom). We made it to 7 mile only long enough to reel in a dogfish before the rest of the crew became too sea sick to continue...return to Bamfield to let everyone recover. We trolled for springs along the Bamfield wall (hooked and lost 2 on anchovies). We even tried for bottom fish without luck (we only caught a handfull of undersize rockfish and sole).

So....that was the fishing end of things. We did however see 6 bear, a whale, numerous eagles and....a flock of PELICANS! That's the first ime I've ever seen pelicans outside of Mexico. I saw them on the way to 7mile. Who knew?

I hope sockeye fishing goes better.
