I am thinking of getting into bowhunting and would like to do a little research. I have never shot a bow except in highschool. I recently moved to Sparwood and don't know the area well. Anyone have any ideas?

RH/LH, compound, recurve, longbow, draw lenght, need a minimum of 40# to hunt with here in B.C I don't know that area for shops but there's some in Vancouver,
Boorman's,Kyanne, Hub Sports, that you can mail order from. Check your area's phone book for sporting goods, and for the nearest archery club,as archery's are always willing to help, and as it seem's theres lots of equipment for sale right here on the net, HuntingBc, Archery talk,Ebay.
Just type in archery and you'll have hundreds of sites on archery.
Good luck and any other questions just post here and there's always someone willing to help.
Do some thinking on what you would like to spend, then look for the equiptment in that price range. :?

Good luck, don't get discouraged.Ive done archery for over 30 years,it's a lot of fun and a great rush in hunting.

Thanks eagle1. I am currently looking on ebay as well as other sites. Lots to choose from and pretty much any price range. I thought that maybe going to a shop might prove to be one of the best learning tools short of finding someone who has an arsenal of bows to try out. Thanks for the advice.

Try Calgary Archery Center (in Calgary) for a pretty wide selection of equipment. You can also shoot some the bows before deciding on which one to buy.

 Hey Vinny , Windfeather Archery Traditions in Cranbrook would be a good place to look around . Monty Evin is a great guy to talk to and get advice from . His ph number is 250 426 8565 .

In addition to Wind Feather, give Bill Hanlon a call. He lives between Elkford and Sparwood. I'm sure he's in the book.

Remember, you don't have to go tech wild, with equipment, you just need to know your effective range.

I would absolutely recommend an IBEP course. This will open your eyes to the bow.

Vinny, going to a reputable archery business is one of the best things you can do for yourself as a novice archer. It's too easy to make mistakes buying from the likes of ebay at this point.

For my part, I'd heartily recommend Kevin Evans at

Kootenay Archery
6355 McLean Rd.
Jaffray, BC V0B 1T0
Canada
P: 250-429-3584
F: 250-429-3524

I bought a bow from him last fall and have never had such good service and quality time spent with me. He's a humdinger of a shooter, too. Jaffray is about half way between Cranbrook and Fernie.
