On the gulf islands as far as I know...

Sidney Spit Island has a good population... But I am unsure as to what the process is to hunt them. Some of the Island is park while the other portion is privately owned.

Happy Hunting!

A freind got one in Cowichan in the 80s. We think it was a escapee from a farm.

If I remember correctly, you used to be able to shoot as many of them as you liked, but paid a $1.00 a pound undressed for everyone you shot.

I wouldn't mind hunting one of those African Springboks I saw on a farm on Oldfield Road in Saanich Peninsula.

FAllow deer in BC are a species that is farmed
There ar some deer that are on Sydney and JAmes Island
Both these islands are privately owned and you must have permission to hunt there.
Sydney island has a marine park there but the only hunting allowed is by the natives for sustanence. There is no more guiding for fallow on the private portion of the island

I was told about 20 years or so ago that there is a Fallow herd that migrates from Washington up to the Fraser Valley each year and they are usually seen in Langley, but being mostly nocturnal they are not seen very often.
This was told to me by a CO in the 80's during a casual conversation at our farm while he was advising me how to best clean up our creek for the salmon. Fred

mapguy,

The guide is long gone and the herd is managed by the island land owners. There is a "hunt co-ordinator" that arranges seasons according to land owner schedules- the hunts take place when there are the least amount of people on the Island.

It's all private land hunting and their goal is to currently bring the numbers down to a level that the deer aren't eating themselves out of house and home, as well as establishing a balanced herd(s) of stags to does with the proper age class hierachy of animals.

There is a fallow deer farm on Mayne Island. I highly doubt that the farmer would approve of anyone hunting on his land, and besides the whole island is no hunting (or at least no firearms, would have to recheck the regs to be sure).
