LOL..well it was opening morning for gobblers and wouldnt ya know i slept in, after running around frantically waiting for the coffee to finish brewing i finally
managed to get out of the house.
when i got to my spot i figured it was way to late so i casually put my camo on and then i heard a distant GOBBLE.
so now i was hurrying to get up the hill and into the forest, after walking for about 10 minutes , gobble, this time it was much louder so i put my face mask on and found a stump pulled out the box call and as soon as i finished the second chirp,,GOBBLE<GOBBLE<GOBBLE< GOBBLE,, yes 4 Toms were gobbling at me , 3 off to my right and one off to the left.
snickering to myself and a little PO for not bring the video camera, i gave a couple little clucks and and all of them started gobbling again, this time real close! took the safety off the gun as i see a little head just behind the hill in front of me and 2 Toms come walking over it about 25 feet away, well the first one to puff all out and strut his stuff and gobble got a 22 in the neck.
about 25 minutes or so into my hunt.
4th year in a row opening morning TOM, and i wish ROCKSTEADY WAS WITH ME< BUT HE CLLED AND SAID HE HAD TO WORK FOR SURE, TO BAD ROCKSTEADY COULD HAVE BEEN A REAL SWEET DOUBLE!
anyways here he is:

This turkey thing is easy,,LOL,,truth of the matter is i am very lucky with turkeys , they seem to come to the call box real easy when its spring time and the Toms are all riled up,,there was a a jay nearby that made a noise kinda like a crow and then all the Toms started gobbling at him to.
I think i am going back there with the video camera.

ITs kinda funny,,it was hard not to laugh this morning when they were all gobbling around, when i stood up to go get Tom, the second Tom stood there for a second and then did its best imitation of a roadrunner, boy did it run away, last i seen was close to 150 yards and still running, must of scared the poop out of it when me in my camo stood up and started walking at it, must of thought it was a walking tree coming after him.

WTG !!!
You got the first turkey on HBC this year. I think I have the second. mine was down on the ground by noon.
You didn't say how much he weighed/lenght of the beard/spurs. I godda know.
Your very brave to try and eat the legs. They are tough as leather. That burger looks yummy !!!

Ddog, you should have posted those delicious pictures in the "whats for dinner" thread:-D..

i was going to post in the whats for dinner, but it looked better here, the before and after.
300H&H> the legs are tough as leather but if you pound them down they are tender as ever, i am guessing the weight on this guy 15ishLBS he was no light weight, i forgot to take a picture of the spurs,,worn down to little bumps.
beard is a gooder at around 8 inches or so maybe a little more.
check out these cutlets! before the fry pan...
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d167/DDOGGY/IMG_1946.jpgthis is the only way to eat them turkeys, makes for a few real good dinners.
i have tried em plucked and cooked but it is a bit of a waste as the legs get so tough and there is some good eats on those legs.
