Moose Hunter let the doubters put their long wheelbase trucks against the S10 and see where they get stuck. My main truck is a crew cab F150 ford ( fits the grandkids for hunting ) wife drives it. I drive a little S10 Blazer ,1987 vintage , and it will go places a regular size pick-up wont. A regular size pick-up will pack things my Blazer wont but when you are 15 minutes from town when you drop that moose there is always lots of help.

I ain't never had any luck at all with any of the domestic fullsize trucks since the ones they made back in the 70's. I think they all suck bigtime in terms of quality/reliability compared to any of the import trucks.

I just wish Toyota would make a 1 ton diesel 4x4 with a Cummins or a Cat in it. :)

I hear ya. It took them this long to come out with full size 1/2 tons (good ones too) so I guess we'll keep waiting......

I know a couple of fella's that had 1980's toyota's that pushed the 700 thousand mark. The bodies and frames gave out before the motor.

I've always been a ford kind of guy but I agree that the big three just don't have the reliability or quality anymore.

hey that quad has 10 thousand kms on it.i have to have it on the truck for weight. only used the quad once last year. oh i used it twice to haul fire wood this year.theres nothing wrong with any of the top three truck manufactures, the new 2007 ford F350 is coming out with a powerstoke 6.4 litre, 405 bhp.

I drive a Ford F150 but I would buy and use any of the trucks out there. I think they all have good points and bad points to consider. I guess I don't really have a favorite because I have basically owned them all at one point.

let's see here. sounds like less than half like something other than fomoco, I guess thats why gm makes the transit busses (or the loser cruiser for those uninformed few) so y'all will be comfy while the FORD tow truck comes to get you (92% OF ALL TOW TRUCKS USE FORD CHASSIS.)

By the way if you see a ford on a tow truck it's a vehicle recovery if you see any thing else.................. it's scrap removal.

GMC is not Canadian.

Personnally I am a ford man but I am currently driving a 87 GMC 1500. Just put in a brand new engine, wouldn't you know it but it smokes worse than the Old engine. Its a nicer ride than my old 87 F250 but that is about where it stops. The Ford wins in every other catagory in my book.

Best truck I owned was an 85 ford ranger with a 2.3L turbo diesel. Not a whole lot of them around but it was great on fuel and ok on power.

Shouldn't someone not only be able to drive but be employed enough to actually afford to buy a 3 month insurance policy before being so opinionated in such matters. 10,000 lbs towing capacity come's in damn handy for towing a travel trailer (6800 lbs loaded for my 24 without slide outs and without atv bays,) pulling boats, and any other work you may choose to do with it. The pick up truck is serious tool for serious men not a cool toy for little boys.

I got pics (paper) of a 76 150 camper special pullin a hummer h1 out of a river bottom, the piss cutter is the f series had to go round the hummer through the same mud hole to pull it out. #2 If you want to play with the big boys be prepared to pay like a big boy.( Big boys play rough, If an 20 40 60 or 80 year old man said something dumb to me I'd set him straight too don't think your special)

Hehe that's pretty good. I'd like to see someone try to drive over my Dodge though. Except maybe Ruger1 in that F-650:eek:

I'm a Dodge man, but I'll take any full-size with a lift kit, lots of go, and a big set of Super Swampers on it.

When it comes down to it, they're all the same sh*t - different pile, all made out of nuts & bolts, and when the whiskey runs out, things get broken.

I've owned Chevs, Fords and Toyotas over the years and have several friends that owned Dodges. The Fords have been very good to me over the years, so I'll stick to them. The Toyotas are too damn small. The Chevs have nice power, but they don't hold up (at least mine didn't) and they look like shit. Dodge? Don't really have an opinion on them much. They used to be so damn loud and rough riding, but it looks like they got that figured out.
I have my new F-350 Diesel 4x4 and I'm happy with it.
Best 4x4 I owned was a Toyota landcruiser, that diesel went everywhere and back.

Well, I'm glad some of you have had good luck with Fords. My 91 F150 is a the biggest piece of junk I've ever owned in my whole life (and I've owned some pretty junky trucks in my day). I've lost track of how many thousands of dollars I spent trying to keep that stupid thing running, and when I finally gave up, there was still no end in sight (it needs another $1,500 of repairs that I know about, nevermind a couple that I don't have any idea what it would cost to fix, and the fact that the transmission is just starting to slip). It only had 160,000km on it when I got it, and I've only managed to get it up to 180,000km. I tell ya what, a Toyota wouldn't even be broke in good at 180,000km....

While I currently dirve an F-250, over the years I've driven pretty much every flavor of truck. One thing Ive noticed, regardless of make; regular maintenance is the key to longevity. Except for the 1981 Toyota 4x4 I had when I was 17, it had no right living as long as it did:mrgreen:

All domestic trucks suck big itme..

If Toyota woudl make a REAL full size truck, I'd buy it, even if it was $10 000 more than the comparaqble ford/chevy etc..

That being said, Toyota does not, o I will keep my 1996 F250 Powerstroke for a few more years. Hell, it only has 450 000 km on it, and the drive train is in great shape.

I'm converting ti to run on vegetabloe oil over the next while, so my fuel wil be free.:p

I would have to agree........I have test driven the new Nissan Titan (I think that is what it is called), and it is a beautiful truck. Although I drive a Pathfinder and a pickup is not practical for my line of work; if I was in the market I would buy that truck no matter the price difference vs. anything domestic.

Sorry Moosehunter, GMC stands for General Motors Corporation. Did you look it up?

GMC's are currently a slightly more luxurious model than the Chevy counterparts and are currently manufactured in;

Lansing Michigan
Arlington Texas
Fort Wayne Indiana
Flint Michigan
Janesville Wisconsin
Lordstown Ohio
Moraine Ohio
Oklahoma City Oklahoma
Oshawa Ontario
Pontiac Michigan
Shreveport Lousiana

There are also a few overseas factories that produce a few GMC vehicles in Venezuala and Russia.

Now if you would have claimed that Camaro's/Firebirds were Canadian I might have let that slide. The last US plant to make a Camaro that I know of was the Van Nuys plant in California that closed in 1992. I believe all Camaro's produced from 1992 on to the cancellation of the Camaro came from Ontario.

The only truck I believe was produced Only for the Canadian market was the Mercury pickup that was cancelled around 1967-1969.

http://www.tx4x4.com/images/mogorange.jpgunimog, another fine truck.
Looks like a German Mercedes or the Austrian Pinzgauer/Unimog,(the two brands look very similar). We drove them in the Swiss army and the Federal Guard and they go just about everywhere, even up the mountains as long the path is wide enough to hold all four weels.

I have a 2001 chevy s10.
At 69 000 miles the check engine light came on, at first it was o2 sensors.
At 70110 mi the problems were fixed, then the computer detected the catalytic converter was faulty .
Chevy's warranty for the cat converter is good up to 70 000 Mi.
Chevy would'nt help out at all and the replacement part is $700.00.
I will never buy a Chevy again.

Oh I know about Internationals....there's a few kicking around here, and I know a few people trying to restore them...also one certain crazy bugger who just loves his Studebakers. I'm a ford girl, but for some reason I have a thing for the new dodge power wagon...probably something to do with them coming stock with a 12000 pound winch and 9 inches of extra articulation in the shocks..... ...just gotta find myself a 77 ford F250 Highboy.

Of COURSE real men drive fords. Any old wimp can DRIVE their vehicle into the woods - but it takes a REAL man to push his in.

:D LOL ! I've pushed my old mans Fix Or Repair Daily's more than a few times!

Always been a GMC chevy guy myself but won't buy another when my 1985 pick-up gives it up. It breaks my heart but the fact is N.A. based manufacturers are building sub par vehicles. I would buy N.A. even if I had to pay more for an equal product. Read the consumer reports and stats though and they paint a clear picture! Ford and Chev aren't going down the drain because of an unequal marketplace they are going down the drain because the work is sloppy and their average vehicles are so unreliable that I swear they are stuck together with chewing gum.

The last new vehicle I bought was a Toyota Carolla for the wife in 2003. It now has 120,000 Km on it and not a squeek or hiccup. It still has the original break pads! Dealer service for regular maintenance has been inexpensive and top notch. These cars are being built in Ontario, so much for the unequal market place! If toyota can build reliable vehicles here why can't N.A. based manufacturers do it as well? Give me a good product and I will support you in spades but until you do I'm buying Japanese.

Ya, fords never let me down. I just bought my first truck about a month ago, 1988 Ford f-150, so far I have put about $200 into it because the guy before never took care of it. And with in the next 2 weeks I gotta put 8 new u-joint sin that sucker, after that, she will be good to go! Im happy with it!. I think I got a couple pics in my gallery, go check 'er out.

Sure are a lot of fools buying into that "Tough Truck" nonsense.
I have found it better for me to buy an older Chev(pre computer) and fix em up. More reliable, less expensive to maintain, and if something does go wrong in the bush, easier to jury-rig to get it out. Fred

Husky7mm
06-19-2006, 09:40 PM
There all shit. The only garantee with trucks or cars or..... is that they will eventually break. Do regular maintainance and dont buy a truck thats already worn out. If your truck is stalling or making funny noises have it repaired or fix it you self. Most break downs can be avoided. What would you pay to avoid haveing to walk ,or have an expensive tow out of the bush? Ive sold over 10000 trucks and have seen the worst reputation one last a long time and the "best" one be junked early.

I will buy jap trucks from now on. My good freind has a 93 toyota has around 300 thou. k . All it has cost is gass and oil one fuel pump and a clutch and brakes. His chev. on the other hand is a 94 the repear bills are huge with less miles. I bought a 2003 ford f350 superduty i sure have no idea why they call it a superduty it was the weakest most fragile truck i have ever had anything to do with.

I ditto with sealevel. I'm sick and tires of the awful experiences I've had with most domestic built stuff. (though, I suppose technicly my little Chev Tracker was built in Canada, but whoever built it did a fine job - it's a well built little vehicle).

Fred

Yeah, maybe, but when you go out wheelin with Super Swampers, a bottle of whiskey, and some other drunk ******* sayin "you can make it, jus' hit 'er a little harder", whether it's built Ford tough, like a rock, or has a sheep on the hood, something's gonna fall apart:biggrin:

Most of them all use the same parts anyways. My Ford diesel had Dana diffs front & rear, Borg Warner tranny & transfer case, and an International engine. The only thing Ford about it was the sheet metal.8-)

I have a chev duramax. This year I was at a buddies in the ok hunting with one of my quads in the back of it. 4:00 am the alarm went off and nature called. I was sitting on the throne doing some early morning reading when I heard a diesel start up right beside the house (or so I thought). I thought the boys in okanogan quad/truck theft ring were in jail but maybe they got out on bail. They were stealing my truck and quad. I raced outside pants around ankles only to find the neighbour 3 doors up had started his FORD POWERSTROKE up to warm it up. Relieved, I went back into the bathroom to finish up my reading.
